Contract signed on stadium upgrades

Kentucky

The University of Kentucky will pay $5.875 million for the replacement of the video boards and sound system at Commonwealth Stadium, as well as the installation of ribbon boards, according to an open records request by CatsPause.com.

The construction contract was awarded to Daktronics, Inc., one of the giants in stadium audio/visual work. The company is set to begin work immediately and must reach ‘substantial completion’ by Kentucky’s Sept. 10 home opener against Central Michigan. The contract requires ‘final completion’ to be within 30 days after that with the final deadline for completion being Oct. 10.

Daktronics would be required to pay $1,000 per day until it reaches ‘substantial completion’ should it not be done by Sept. 10. The penalty is the same for ‘final completion’.

The exact cost of the winning bid put in by Daktronics was $5,874,900.
