John Calipari and Kentucky added another big piece to its 2013 recruiting puzzle when Antioch (Calif.) Deer Valley forward Marcus Lee chose Kentucky over California during an announcement at his school Wednesday.
Lee gives the Cats some much-needed size while it awaits the decisions of fellow 5-stars Julius Randle and Aaron Gordon.
A skilled, athletic big man who can run the floor and block shots, Lee is ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 4 power forward in the 2013 class by 247Sports and No. 16 overall in the 247Composite.
The UK staff first began scouting Lee last spring at Boo Williams in Hampton, Va. following his breakout performance at the Nike-EYBL stop in Minneapolis.
Lee held scholarship offers from the likes of Arizona, Duke, UConn, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Syracuse, Texas and UCLA.
The Cats held an in-home visit with Lee and his family Sept. 16 and sealed the deal during an official visit to Big Blue Madness last weekend.
Lee gives the Cats some much-needed size while it awaits what will likely be the spring decisions of fellow 5-star forwards Julius Randle and Aaron Gordon.
247Sports' Jerry Meyer on Marcus Lee:
Although his best ball is ahead of him, Marcus Lee is an impressive athlete with skill and length. He can score around the basket and is also very comfortable facing the basket. His jumper needs developing but he is a high-level passer without the dribble and off the dribble attack. Defensively, he has the tools to be a high-level shot blocker and also perimeter defender.
