Cats keep their motors running

Julius Mays

Kentucky guard Julius Mays hounds an Eastern Michigan player in the Cats' 90-38 victory (Darrell Bird/TCP)

If Kentucky is going to defend it's 2012 Southeastern Conference regular season championship Calipari knows the devil will come in the details starting with sustained effort.

    • This is the 2nd consecutive game that I have seen the "motor" running in this team over extended periods of time and that is really encouraging. I think the test to see if this improvement is ongoing is at Vandy next week. That game will be on the road and in an arena where the benches are not in their regular spots. Some may say that doesnt mean much but ask any freshman that has played there for the 1st time and see how they respond. If the Cats keep that motor running like they have or even improve upon it then they will be on their way and should win against the undermanned Vandy team, but if they revert for some reason they will have a hard fight on their hands. I expext the Cats to come out with a high octane motor humming along and will beat the "DORES" by double digits.

    • Agreed. I also think our guards may have learn something from the UL game. They are just as quick and athletic (if not more) than the UL guards, so instead of guarding by retreating they too can get up close and snatch at the ball. If they do this consistently, they can disrupt the opponent's plans and offensive sets. The more they practice this, the less they are likely to foul.
