WHAT TO WATCH AGAINST THE NITTANY LIONS
BIG MAN ON CAMPUS
Tim Frazier is not only the big man on campus, he might be the most lonely. Frazier, a 6-1 junior from Houston, is the only returning starter from a Penn State club that reached its first ever Big Ten tournament title game and earned a No. 10 seed for NCAA play. Gone are Talor Battle, Jeff Brooks, David Jackson and Andrew Jones. Combined the departed foursome averaged 33 minutes per game while scoring 77.8 percents of Penn State’s 63 points per game.
YOU SHOULD KNOW
The Nittany Lions enjoyed a tremendous season last year, but they not only lost four starters, they’ll be under new head coach Patrick Chambers, who comes over from Boston University. He was 42-28 in only two seasons at BU, leading the Terriers to the NCAA Tourney last season. During his introductory press conference in June, Chambers thank the man who took a chance by hiring him from a high school job to be an assistant on his staff – Villanova coach Jay Wright. “He taught me how to build a program, how to run a program, to build a championship program, how to recruit and also how to build relationships,” Chambers said. “He saw something in me and I'll be forever indebted to him.”
All five starters averaged more than 30 minutes per game for Penn State, scoring 86 percent of the points. Frazier averaged 31 minutes but only six points per game. After that, Cameron Woodyard is the most experienced player with three starts and a 1.8 points per game average.
