Asiantii Woulard

  • SO lets say we land this guy how would the whole QB situation work out. I think some will transfer.

    nextUKGreat

  • I think smith and towles battle for starter and woulard takes a RS. I'd be a little surprised if anyone transfers with the addition of a freshman..... at least not this yr.

Smith and Towles are going to duke it out for starting position. Why would they leave until they know who wins?

  • Think about it the offense would be new to every person, and Brown himself said that it would only like about 3 days to install so its a simple offense that the QB's would pick up quickly. SO lets say ASIANTII WOULARD picks up the offense and looks good in spring???

I think that is a good problem to have! I would rather have that problem than 3 QB's who can't play! In that case, let the best QB play no matter who it is. Then let the other QB's figure out if they want to fight for 2nd or 3rd, change position or transfer. This is the problem I would rather have!

It's a quick offense to install, but it doesn't mean that you can run it really well in 3 days. For example, I can teach you a few basic chords on the guitar in about an hour. With those chords you "can" play 75% of the songs out there. It doesn't mean that you are Eddie Van Halen.

It is possible that Woulard can come in and be the best option. In that case, you could go with him and you may see someone transfer......but this is highly, highly, highly unlikely. Smith has played really well. Towles has crazy potential as well. At the end of the day I think you'll find that "as far as next yr", Smith and Towles will be able to play guitar much better than Woulard.

In an ideal world you want to RS every freshman that comes to UK. At most positions we can't afford this luxury, but I think we can afford to RS Woulard. Especially with 3 QB's that can cover the position right now.....Smith, Towles, Whitlow.

  • Don't take the statement of installing an offense in 3 days as equating to being a simple offense.

There are still reads WR's have to learn to make and more importantly there are check off's the QB has to learn to identify and use to call the right play.

At Tech, mike leach's best qb's were 5th year seniors (up until graham Harrell I think).
Experience will play a big part in running this offense correctly, even though it will be a new system.

I seriously doubt a true freshman will be able to knock of max smith.

    Farmy75

  • Max smith or Towles will likely start. With that being said we are talking about the #1 doul threat QB that won the elite 11 camp witch has the top qb's in the nation so hes not a regular true freshmen that UK is used to having. He might be the next teddy bridgewater ( if i spelled name wrong i did it on purpose ). If we get him he would be the highest rated and toe-to-toe with Towles on having the highest ceiling of any QB we have.

You also got to think, Smith, and particularly towles don't have as much of a head start since they'll all be learning a brand new system. If Woulard is more atheletic, and can pick the offense up quickly, he may well beat out more experienced guys because their experience is in a diff system. IN fact, inexperience in a diff system could theoretically make it harder for them to adjust.

exactly Max smith, mostly towles were getting a feel for the old offense and now they ill have to adjust. Asiantii Woulard on the other hand would be learning his first college system. Smith, Towles have the advantage in experience but like the rookie qb's in NFL and johnny football have proven that Poise and confidence is better experience. Becuz experience is simply poise under adversity and confidence to make big boy plays in Big games.

Only way that happens is if Smith and Towles both have a complete meltdown during spring practice. Woulard will not be there until the summer for fall practice so Brown will get to see the guys who are here, plus they will have the advantage of knowing the system longer so I don't see it happening from what we saw from both of these guys last year. Woulard would be redshirted in the perfect world. PLUS remember Wouldard in still in High School, he's going to behind because of that, while Towles and Smith get reps all spring.

  • With us being as shallow for WRs, I hope Whitlow can give us some help at that position..If he happens to win the QB competition, fine, but, I think he's the one guy out of our current QBs that has the athleticism and ability to play another position and contribute..

  • i would like lard to redshirt and towles to start bcuz i like patrick the most. pray

    nextUKGreat

  • If we pick up Woulard and he beats out the guys that we already have then I'd fully expect Patrick Towles to transfer because I know he doesn't want to sit the bench. Whitlow would play WR, Max Smith would stay as backup QB and Reese Philips won't have anywhere to transfer so he would be at staple at #3 QB.

But if Woulard comes in and doesn't beat out the current guys we have then nobody will transfer but I think he would beat our Reese Philips though. In this scenario it would still send Whitlow to WR or atleast H-Back.

I think your last point has merit. If Woulard would come in at the #3 QB, it would make Whitlow have to make a decision, do I sit and wait or do I play now? He was given his chance last year so I believe if a new guy comes in and takes away his spot, he will probably want to play another position to get on the field. He is a great athlete, but only a so so QB.

    UKlaw82

  • Woulard is a interesting recruit to come in cause if he does choose to sign with us, we'll have 4 qb's on the roster that could/can play. Whitlow is an athlete that can play different positions and things I have heard is that he's more than willing to more to a different position as long as he gets his shot at qb. There's also a big chance we may not sign another qb in this class and go with Phillips as our only qb commit this year.

Lets say that Woulard does commit here, he'll get his shot for playing time cause he has a high ceiling just like Towles and Smith. Only thing to really look for is how healthy Smith is, I have heard he was more hurt than lead to believe. Towles would have advance further in the elite 11 camp if his footwork/ mechanics were a lot better. Dilfer really loved his potential just thought he was still raw and the others before him were a little more advanced at there overall mechanics. Doesn't mean Towles won't be a good qb, just means he needs to work on his overall mechanics. But back to the topic at hand, everyone that will be here shooting to be the starting qb here has a legit shot at it.

Smith is the most polished out of the bunch but it also at this time is consider injury prone. Whitlow is the better overall athlete but his accuracy is spotty at best and his arm strength is below Smith and Towles. Towles probably has the biggest upside out of the three but his overall mechanics need to be retooled. Any freshman qb that comes in will be behind in a college workout/ conditioning drills where Phillips gets an edge in enrolling early.

Neal Brown offense is installed faster than Sanders but it will still time time for any qb to master it, not 3-5 years but probably a whole spring/summer to have a vast majority down. It depends a lot on fast reads and accuracy, is what Brown wants.

Sounds like he may commit on his visit on Jan. 11 if everything goes well.

  • For those questioning his offer sheet, it sounds like he was a late bloomer, having previously been a WR for 2 years. Kid is a physical specimen. Won the Elite 11 MVP, while nursing a groin injury...Check out the picture. Kid's a freak. The other one is Woulard and Fla. RB JoJo Kemp!

  • If you haven't watch the show on the Elite 11 contests, you need to. Before I watched I was really sure that this kid couldn't come in the fall and make a splash at possibly starting but now I am unsure. He looked the part of being a SEC QB, and didn't even get to see him run. I am shocked at his interest in us but boy, if we could get him, the fun would really be back at CWS.

Him and JoJo are visiting together on the same date. Think they might commit at the same time.

  • I believe the old saying goes Qb's were made to transfer! But the bottom line is the more competition there is, the better the Qb on game day. As someone already stated above, this is a VERY good problem to have (if it materializes and the kid commits)!!!
