"I didn't come all the way to L.A. to lose." That's the attitude you want in a QB, really hope we land this kid.

  • I think everyone needs to calm down on insulting anyone, people have there opinions and that's the point of these boards, to share and discuss it. Like my opinion is not to get to high on a kid when he hasn't even committed or even signed but it's exciting to know how in we are with higher ranked kids. Kid could be the next RG3 or he could be another dt qb. To compare him to Teddy Bridgewater is a little crazy when Teddy has the chance to enroll for springball and that gave him a better chance of playing as a true freshman. We need more talent on this team cause it will either push older players to out of there mind or the younger kids will play but as I have stated, Stoops is not truly worried about making a big push this coming season, look for next year and beyond for him to make a bigger move in the pecking order. He's going to establish what he wants this year and build a lot of relationships for 2014 class which could end up a top 25 class.

    Why so serious?

  • The kid has a ton of potential but Max Smith will be the starting Qb until he graduates. Max is legit i dont care about 4 int versus WKU the right coaching staff and he throws for 3500 yards this year

  • Bet you a 1$, he doesn't

I hope so quagmire. I would really love to be able to redshirt all incoming freshman to build depth. I really have no idea how good Max Smith is because of his health issues. He has some games where he looks ok, and others where he lays an egg. I don't think any of us have seen enough of him to know what kind of QB he is or can be.

I don't know if I can agree with u on Stoops not wanting to make a big push this season. "You play to win the game!" He definitely isn't going to throw a year away because we sucked in '12. Also right now he has all the hype and hoopla going for him. If they come out and just go thru the motions, that's all going to go away! He really needs to come in and pound the cupcakes, and get a couple SEC wins. He's got to keep the excitement going.

    biglee33

  • I agree Lee. With the competition in the SEC and the Commonwealth Stoops has to hit the ground running. He doesn't necessarily need to win a ton but he has to be competitive and recruit like crazy.

Just curious but how do you know whether Stoops is worried about making a big push this coming season. I would imagine he'll be trying to win every game we play. Thats not to say he's not thinking ahead to the future in terms of recruiting and roster management but as far as winning games I'm sure he's thinking about the now.

Personally, it's what I would do. I would try to win big games now with what I have but I wouldn't risk my bigger goals in my first year when I can build my roster and set the standard going forward. I believe he'll do what he can to win out of the gate but I can see where he's not going to risk small success when you can shoot for bigger success in 2 years. Our roster is way better than the 2-11 campaign would suggest and 10x's better than when Brooks came in. Why do you think Brooks got better after 3 years, he built a roster that would compete. Stoops will do the same but probably much faster and much more than Brooks did.

  • Why would stoops being going after the top juco players in the nation if he wasnt trying to build this thing now. Lol no offense but no coach redshirts a kid if hes good enough to play now.

I've never heard anyone say that they would RS him if he is the best option. People have been saying that we have some good upperclassman that may be a better option for next yr than a true freshman. If that's the case then there is no shame in a RS.

  • He's not red shirting any juco players, he got them to play and/or start but I believe he'll red shirt most of his freshmen class, he won't do what Joker did

I think it is a bit early to say that. UF we get him and he ends up being as good as Bridgewater or even better, I doubt Smith or anyone else on campus would cause him to hold the clipboard for 2 years. First year, sure, but it isn't out of question that he could win it by his 2nd year.

  • I cant wait until the season starts Max is made for this system.

    quagmire

  • My response was to people saying he will redshirt guys and sacrafice losing this year in order to build for the future. What I am saying is he is not thinking that way or he would not be going after the top jucos.

    quagmire

  • I just hope our OL improves enough in this new system to allow Smith, Towles, Whitlow or possibly the freshman if he commits, to play a season without getting killed. Have to keep in mind with regards to Smith that he has been knocked out the past two years. Not saying it couldn't happen to anyone but just hope our QBs has some better protection this year.

Right coaching staff? He was set to throw for over 3,500 yards LAST YEAR if he didn't get hurt. Smith will throw for over 3,500 this season if he remains healthy. That is really the only question mark.

With all due respect, Joker had to play the freshmen this year. They were clearly better than the upperclassmen. It might work out for the best anyway since these young guys got some good experience.

Yeah but look where he is now. I was all for Joker to succeed but he didn't manage or develop the roster well, granted Brooks last two classes really affected the roster down the road but Joker didn't manage the team very well and a lot of our players suffer from a development stand point. You'll probably see some names emerge that you didn't think would play and that would be huge for our team. I'm all about letting the best guy win but you do want the same to happen again if the roster is not develop and manage well this time around?

  • Obviously you want to redshirt if you can. But you play the best players we just hope we get to a point where are best players are jrs srs not true and rs frosh

    quagmire

  • Joker used the youth thing as an excuse imho look at the amount of frosh Fla was playing the other night and they one a ton of games this year. Joker got some solid recruits in the last two classes but not elite level recruits that can compete at this level that young.

Remember, the Air Raid gets the ball out of the QB's hands quickly on most pass plays.
