  • *BREAKING: CB Marcus Caffey will be ineligible for the 2012 season. WIll practice but can't play. Martavius Neloms will move back to CB to help with loss of Caffey. No way to sugarcoat though, that's HUGE loss for UK.

*Freshman DB Shawn Blaylock will have season ending knee surgery. Will report to camp. Will have surgery on the 7th.

*Joker says he won't answer any questions about Caffey. He wouldn't stop raving about him in spring and summer.

  • UK already thin in the secondary. Losing Caffey hurts big time.

  • *Maxwell Smith came to the coaches and asked to room with freshman WR Demarcus Sweat. Says a lot about his talent.

*Joker going into long story about JuCo S/LB Kory Brown and how committed he was to making something of himself and getting to Kentucky. Raving about that being the type of kids they are bringing in these days.

No doubt. Neloms was supposed to split his time between safety and cornerback as necessary. Now he has to play corner full time. Moving over to corner to help accommodate depth will be freshman J.D. Harmon. That was already a very thin position in terms of depth—probably the thinnest across UK's roster.

Kid locks up a starting spot and then blows it in the classroom. Bummer, somebody else needs to step up and fill the void. He got rave reviews in the spring but no game action to prove what he could really do. Blow to the depth there for sure.

  • Well the hits they just a keep on coming, don't they? That just sucks! The only silver lining I guess is that S is deep and we have 2 or 3 guys who can help out there. Also, since Caffey can practice, he should be that much better come next season. As long as he takes care of business and actually plays next yr.

  • **Joker said Avery Williamson kept telling him this summer that freshman LB Khalid Henderson was going to be special and was always involved in voluntary workouts now/

**Joker said they consider Mister Cobble a leader now. Said he does everything the right way. Keep in mind, he was exactly where Marcus Caffey was two years ago.

First it was Cobble a couple years ago and now Caffey. Let's hope those freshman are ready to step in and play, or that Simmons can finally make that push forward. HURTS big time

  • Is it just me or does media day always start out with some really bad news?

I know there was the Curtis Pulley deal a couple years ago, Mister Cobble and I'm probably forgetting some others...

  • **Joker talking about pace of practice and how they've got to ratchet that up.

**Sweet, only second question when Statement Guy asks a 'question': 'Hey coach, that Foster kid. Damn he can punt.'

  • So with neloms moving to corner does that mean that faulker has the starting spot at safety for now?

    catman27

  • *Joker does say he thinks Landon Foster can/will be the 'next great punter' at Kentucky.

*Joker says freshman Josh Harris will get some time at safety. One of the other two Blaylocks (there were 3 in this class) will battle for playing time.

Lowery is probably ahead of Faulkner still, but both of them will see a lot of PT this year.

  • Do these keep tabs on each others academic progress? From my experience in the fraternity this does wonders when your peers are making sure you are staying on track and also bringing underperformers along of need be.

It hurts, no doubt. But let's be honest. He'd be a RS Frosh with zero experience this year. Neloms is a Sr. I think we'll be fine at Safety even with Neloms moving over. I really really like Neloms at CB.

That's a good question. I don't know the answer to this. Outside of the academic support staff, we obviously don't know since we aren't in the dorms and the locker rooms.

If they aren't holding their peers accountable, though, they should be. Mine did in college, and I needed it.

But the depth ... always comes into play during the SEC season. Guys are going to get banged up.
