I think signing Barker is a big deal from a momentum perspective. A commitment from Barker would put palpable excitement and momentum in the air.His commitment to UK could help the staff sell its vision for the future and lead to the commitment of other high profile kids. It's not a secret that a number of kids UK is after are watching Barker's recruitment closely. And as we all know, what UK needs most right now for its rebuilding efforts are lots of talented players.
Now, at the same time, it would not be the end of the world or immediately halt Stoops momentum if Barker chooses USC. Neal Brown's system sells itself to recruits, and UK would be well positioned to land another talented, albeit slightly less high profile, QB (although Barker is obviously their preference). Moreover, there is some talent in the sophomore class at QB and my understanding was that R. Phillips impressed during practices this spring.
