$100,000,000 expansion to Commonwealth set for 2014

  • No kidding. That "brand" has put several people into the NFL and damn near every offensive kid we are in on talks about how our offense is great because it prepares you for the NFL. Remember Rich Brooks ran the same kind of "brand". I didnt hear people talking about how unexcited they were when Andre was breaking records left and right.

Just out of curiousity but if this expansion occurs how many seats total will be added to the current capacity.

If this is like the proposed projects that have been running around the last two years, then no real expansion to seating.

It's more of building a new press box on top of the stadium (with some luxury suits) and turning the existing press box into club level seats with private concessions behind it. Somewhere in this is adding in what we would use as a recruiting room. Maybe a total increase of seats (or tickets, more for luxury suits) 2,000 at best.

  • All the fans that have given up their season tickets because they are disgusted with the product should hopefully go to the very end of the line...and then some.

That make sense now, thanks for the clarification

It's all about the right now for some fans. They don't care about the records Woodson & Hartline where making & breaking. Or Lyons Jr., Burton, Cobb, Johnson, Tamme and Matthews having great seasons leading the SEC or having solid SEC careers. Watching Little, Locke or the fact we had a FB drafted, A FB!!!!! How many FB's have been drafted at UK in past 30 years?

We have new playmakers ready to make their claim on UK records and SEC careers. Hopefully kids like Clemons, Warren, Robinson, Shields, Collins, Mobley, Sweat, Legree, Taylor, Whitlow, Tiller?, Smith, Towles and others can reproduce what past players have been able to do in this offense.

The Brand Brooks started and Joker continues works. It has it's ups and downs but for the most part we're able to move the ball. Last season was down year for many reasons but this is a new year. I've said it many times and I'll say it again, if we get solid QB play and some of the younger playmakers step up we'll be fine. Not 2007 good but more like 2006 good, and that's good enough to get back to a Bowl game.

  • CWS doesn't really need an expansion; just needs to be updated. 70,000 is plenty for a game.

  • Has anyone confirmed this topic to be fact or fiction yet?

With season ticket sales reportedly down, there is a pretty high likelihood that decreased ticket revenue will be used to block any potential funding that we may be counting on from the Legislature or state.

I'd bet on it being fiction. As a project for a state entity, this job would need a publically advertised bidding process. Oh and the project hasnt even been approved by the state to even take place, that is a slight problem to this little rumor.

Bottom line, somehow I don't think that some supersecret in-smoke-filled-rooms agreement with this construction outfit is logical to have occured on a project that hasnt even been approved to be funded not paid for, and being done for a state owned University.

This is a message board. I'm pretty sure speaking on things you know nothing about is the lubricant that keeps the internet going.

  • I'm familiar with this publication which used to be called "the Dodge Report", apparently it was bought out by McGraw-Hill and the name changed. It highlights upcoming potential construction projects but being listed in the report does not mean that the project has been funded or approved, it's just "on the table".

My hunch is this project was picked up from the governors budget items that were never approved (previously discussed on here in another thread).

Wish this actually meant something but at this juncture I would say if there has been no announcements from UK, it probably doesn't mean much of anything. If the project were actually approved and funded it's hard to see how local media hasn't picked up on it before now.

  • ^ Yes,
An thats makes Williams a liar..... The project has been out. Mitch is exploring options for funding. IMG, The State, Now private funds ( which is why Dodge picked it up again) . Williams has known about this project since it was taken to IMG. Why is he allowed to suffocate this state for his personal agena?

Because he is a politician. I'm a Republican but Williams seems very shady.

This line is the direct statement from the report, but as it was mentioned above, this is what was officially proposed.
    Line #...

    4. Renovate/Expand Commonwealth Stadium $100,000,000 This project will renovate and expand Commonwealth Stadium to include enhancing the overall premium seating demand by adding viewing suites, club seating, and club hospitality space. The reconfiguration and addition of a new press box will contribute to the media exposure for the brand of Kentucky Football. A full kitchen to serve the suites, club hospitality space, and an Athletics multi-purpose room also will be included. (C-O)

And you shouldn't start threads with false misleading titles, or get a better education of which you are trying to convey next time. Save yourself some future embarrassment.

Come on Jeff, your right but it's understandable. Maybe if Joker puts exciting football on the field then we can discuss the naysayers. The brand of football Joker puts on the field hurts recruiting, not a fan base or national media that knows its win or else.

Come on Jeff, your right but your wrong! That's essentially what you just said with that post.

So what has to happen for this to turn into a reality? Sorry for asking the same question... In other words what or who has to approve this big sexy idea?

    todd

  • you're - abbreviation for 'you are'
your - possessive of you, showing ownership

    other words commonly misused:

they're - abbreviation for 'they are'
    their - possessive of they
there - into or at a place

are - second person plural of am
    our - possessive of we
hour - a measure of time

to - expression or motion toward something
    too - meaning also
    two - a number

I know it means little to a lot of folks but for those that of us that have to translate posts from how they are actually written to what is meant to be said is very aggravating.

  • Todd,
    My answer is this:
Mitch has pitched this renovation 3 times since 2008.
First pitch - Was to IMG and they passed. (Brooks was very vocal about this)
Second pitch - Was through the state and he was told no because of UK's limited bonding capacity.
Third pitch - Fund it through private donations.( This is currently going on and IMO is why McGraw-Hill reporting service has listed it again).

    Maximus62865

  • Come on RV, this is a forum... Sorry if I mis use words, please don't take it personal, send someone a PM don't call em out... It's not like people are using french or ebonyx...

Anyways RV is this a rumor or is this really in the works? I've tried to find info about it but I can't...

  • Thanks I really hope this works out, i'm not fluid with this stuff. I really hope for the sake of us and everyone else who loves UK that all this happens. If this were to happen recruiting should improve, how much i'm not sure but IMO we should be able to get top 15-25 classes every year... I've always thought if Joker and CO had enough SEC caliber players they could do very well. Back in 10 we had a good Off but our D was lacking, if we had both it's really un telling how good we could have been back in 07/10 and in other years.
