***2012 KENTUCKY FOOTBALL ROSTER NOTES***

    I thought I remembered there not being much shot of Bookie making it back... Has that changed or was I just mistaken????

    Speculation was that will come down to the wire right before August camps to see if he is OK academically or not, depending on grades over summer school

    All signs point to bookie being ok.

  • MJDotson, if you meant frosh your list looks pretty good. But I'm most interested about the Frosh that RS last yr. These guys have had a year under Rock, should be comfortable with their daily expectations, and should have a decent understanding of their respective positions. These are the guys I want to hear great things about. Especially the WRs, our new CB star (Caffey) etal, and the OL guys. Also anxious to hear how all the guys coming off of injuries respond.

  • UK makes the Dakotah Tyler info official:

    LEXINGTON, Ky. – Safety Dakotah Tyler has returned to the Kentucky football team, Coach Joker Phillips has announced.

    Upon the completion of summer-school courses, Tyler will be able to play in the 2012 season and will be a junior in eligibility. He sat out the 2011-12 school year for personal reasons.

    Tyler saw action in the last 11 games of the 2010 season, including one start, after missing the first two contests that year because of an ankle sprain. He totaled 13 tackles, one tackle for loss, one pass breakup and caused one fumble. He had a season-high three tackles at Mississippi State and in the win over Vanderbilt. He had a tackle for loss and caused a fumble in the regular-season finale at Tennessee. He also contributed on special teams.

  • Outstanding news Matt! Kind of like getting another recruit only with experience in the SEC.

  • Alright, been thinking about this one. I'm gonna go alittle bit off the beaten path from the rest.
    1) idk what it is, but I have been really excited to see Shawn Blaylock play!! I know everyone has mentioned Tiller, but I think that Zach could jump up and surprise some people come this fall. Which may not be a really bad thing if you ask me.
    2) Legree is another one who I'm really excited for. LOVE getting those guys from Florida who fly alittle bit under the radar. And the high jump champ in the state of Florida..... can we say red zone nightmare!!
    3) Jalen Whitlow is a guy you can't help but get excited for!! I mean, guy committs without ever stepping foot on campus, and the possibilities we have with that kid on the field are very Cobbesque...... can do SO many things. Run, Catch and Throw. Matchup nightmare
    4) I mean it's no coincidence that Henderson gets DT's old #22. If you remember, he had a twitter picture if I remember right on his visit wearing a #22 jersey. I think they see big things in him
    5) And last is a REALLY off the beaten path, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE after what we've been hearing out of our ST and specifically the punt team, hope that Landon Foster is the answer at P. He has the talent
    Alright, there it is from me

  • 1. Sweat or Tiller. Mostly to see if they can help our return game which was abysmal last yr. Had to be in the lower 5% nationally.
    2. I agree with the others about Whitlow, he seems to be very talented and a real threat much as Cobb was.
    3. Jordan Watson. I get a feeling he is going to be pressed into duty, much like Miller was last yr. I wish all the OL guys could get RS but think Watson is most likely to see snaps and be a big part of the OL by mid to late season.
    4. Khalid Henderson. With so much youth in our LB corp I think he will get a chance to prove himself and also be big on ST play.
    5. The 3 headed Blaylock monster. It will be near impossible for me to keep them identified correctly, especially now that they will be donning the Lucky 7s! If you pick one you get em all, right? Nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers, sisters, Mookie. I think at least 1 works his way into the DB rotation and ST play.
    I will say, it is so nice to know that FB is just around the corner!

  • Jordan Watson 6-4/324? They had him listed as 6-4/270 when he signed. He may be able to contribute as a frosh afterall.

    Yeah, when I go back and watch Whitlow's highlight tapes, I see a lot of Cobb in him in that he simply has a nose for making plays and doing something special. He could go on to be a flop, but at this point I think he was the steal of the class for us and that he will be a household name around the SEC in a couple of years like Cobb became.

    If thats true and he has a nose for making plays like Cobb then he could be even better than Cobb because he's much more of a physical specimen from what I've seen.

    One thing about it! When we step off the Bus we'll look like a SEC Team!

    Landon Foster could have a direct effect on us having a winning season or not. Our D is gonna need some help especially early on and its going to be crucial for him to pin teams deep in their own territory. Hopefully he comes in and performs right away.

    the profile on here says King was 194, so he added 25ish pounds in school and you know it is mostly muscle, scary. Shaq gained 30-40 pounds in an offseason, again saying that is more then likely muscle weight, not fat O_o Holy christ!! flexweights_barweights heck, maybe warford could side outside to play RT, Smith at C, eatmon and Shaq at G and Miller at the other tackle. If nothing else, we could put an extra TE on the right to help the weaker RT and mainly run the ball with the stable of backs we have. #groundandpound please twocents

    I'm not sure about moving some of those guys around on the O-line (it may work), but one thing I do agree with you 100% on is I hope we become more committed to running the football even if our passing game is doing well. The team with the most rushing yards has won when playing UofL for a while now. Yes passing the ball is fun and exciting but if we could use our crew of rb's to wear teams down and get them thinking run we could destroy people with play action... Teams that utilize the Pro-style off and look to set up the pass with the run usually have wr's that average huge chunks of yardage... I really wish we could crack 150 yards rushing in every game... I would also love it if we became more committed to the screen game. Those tunnel and slip screens we used a few years back were almost impossible to stop. Some NFL Off Cords have said "If the NFL had the same rules as college in regards to the screen game teams would screen almost every play"... I remember last year Tx Tech beat OK and used the same "tunnel screen" 5 times I bet...

    Screens, Draws, Play-action, Bootlegs and misdirection all really helps a weak O-line. Especially if a team has a athletic QB on bootlegs because alot of times the qb has a run-pass option... Some have talked about how PT will have a package I really hope screens, bootlegs and play-action are a big part of it... All those schemes are equalizers... Can't wait to see this team I really think we are going to be better than alot of people are thinking. We do have alot of question marks on the O-line, LB and CB but all those areas have talent and athleticism. GO CATS!!!

  • I noticed that all of the OTs lost weight and all of the OGs gained weight except Nared-Eatmon, who stayed at 342.
    LT
    Miller: 306 --> 293 = -13
    Davenport: 330 --> 318 = -12
    Gruenschlager: 354 --> 339 = -15

    LG
    West: 312 --> 319 = +7
    Nared-Eatmon: 342

    C
    Smith: 291 --> 296 = +5
    Godby: 283 --> 280 = -3

    RG
    Warford: 333 --> 343 = +10
    Love: 296 --> 310 = +14
    Duff: 331 --> 332 = +1

    RT
    Mitchell: 300 --> 287 = -13
    Woods: 292 --> 281 = -11

    I wonder if this signifies that UK does plan on going to a more spread passing attack with having lighter OTs so that they can move more easily but still have bigger OGs in order to open up inside running lanes???

    I did read that Rock and his crew are putting the players through more position-specific offseason workout and conditioning programs this year, so there could be something to that. I doubt it is coincidence that each and every one of the OT's lost wait. I bet they are in better cardio shape as well. Same with the OG's all gaining wait to help be stronger roadgraders in the run game. I doubt its a coincidence.

  • Would it be wrong to assume that the true Fr that have had their measurements changed are the ones on campus already and the ones who haven't are coming later. If that is the case then:

    On Campus: Chapman, Graffree, Harris, Henderson, Mobley, Myers, Newton, Watson, Whitlow

    Not Yet: All the Blaylocks, Foster, Jones, Legree, Quinn, Reed, Sweat, Swindle, Taylor, Thomas, Tiller, Toth, Towles, Wright

    Maybe I am reading too much into it.

    I don't believe that's the case since I saw Zack Blaylock and Jordan Swindle at the facility last week.

  • Love seeing that Mobley is at 223 lbs (Jonathan George too). If its good weight... we may finally have the big back we've been waiting for. Especially once Rock gets to work with him.

  • Oh yea mobley def will be our big back same with Taylor

    Beezy1123

  • mobley reminds me so much of tose it ant funny hes not the fastest guys in a camp setting but honestly as long as u r in the 4.6 range r better short burst vision and pad level r much more important for a rb imo.

    quagmire

  • I just want a running back that can break a tackle. I would hate to see the yards after contact by the RB's last year.

    bigbluerules

  • most broken tackles r when a rb has a head of steam how many times did r rb run rt into r lineman and the other teams lineman lol. we cannot be a power running team we have to use misdirection and the short passing game to loosen up the defense this year hopefully we play to r strengths and take advantage of r lines athleticism i really like the ability athletically of r starting five. miller as athletic a lt u will see warford very nimble at 345. smith pretty athletic west a athletic guard and mitchell is a sub 5 forty guy at rt. i believe we will run a colts type o this year.

    I've got a really good feeling about Mobley. He's quite the talent. Just hope he has the desire to be the best.

    I know for certain that Towles, Quinn. and Reed are on campus. What i think you could be leaving out is that so kids could actually be their height and weight from HS, i know, it is rare now-a-days but some honest souls do exist. sarcasm And also, i forgot about this but....... honeybadger
