  • DEFENSIVE TACKLE
    99 Donte Rumph (6-3, 301, Jr.)
    50 Mike Douglas (6-4, 269, So.) shrug

Really liked Douglas at End...is this just one of those scheme deals where he really still will be play on the outside?

  • I for one actually like the o line this year. RT may be the weaker of the bunch but over all I like it. Could you imagine if we lined up the second string LT and LG. 6'11" and 6'7". WOW

    Kytate13

  • 11 Maxwell Smith (6-4, 224, So.) or blank
    12 Morgan Newton (6-4, 240, Sr.)

    REALLY?

  • Man, we are pretty small at RT. Two guys at less than 290? I'll be interested to see how that side of the line looks come the first game.

Also, Aaron Boyd is pretty high on the depth chart. Is it just me, or is that a big change from previous seasons?

I think Boyd is that high simply because they list three WR positions and they don't have a whole lot of options to fill those out, especially with several of those guys limited or completely missing spring practice.

Shocked this wasn't the first thing mentioned. And I don't believe that's really the case, but I'm sure people are going to freak out over it.

  • Ray Sanders is down 15 lbs from last year, hopefully that puts a little more pep in his step. Both tackles are also down from last year's reported weights, although West and Warford are both up.

Dupree and A. Williamson have both made big gains in weight as well. Man, I'm pumped up for football. Can't wait to see how the incoming freshmen are listed on the depth chart after fall camp.

    Is it Sept. 2 yet?

Not freaking out, just an - are you serious?
Just MHO, but at this point that would be catastrophic for this staff to make that move. The stands would be absolutely empty.

Why even put that out there? Why even subject yourself to the scrutiny?

They believe you don't lose your position to injury, which is how Newton lost his position. This is probably more of a semantic or display of gratitude towrd the Newton family, nothing more

  • Somebody check my math.....But, I ONLY counted 16 Seniors on that ENTIRE list (that list goes WAY more than two-deep at a lot of positions).

I really do feel good about our future looking at that list, plus adding the incoming class AND the commits for next year we currently hold.

  • 60 Alvin Davis (6-4, 264, So.)

He did redshirt, but am I correct in that he came in weighing 225? Also, he ran a 4.6 forty, IIRC. If he still has good speed, I think he might surprise some opposing teams on the field this year.

  • I have a feeling we are going to see some movement on the WR depth charts come this fall. Idk if he will end up starting or not but imo Mean Gene Mcaskill is crucial to our offense. This kid is really capable of being a solid SEC WR, and if that happens (with King having a great year imo)...look out for Mr. Collins.

  • Billy Joe Murphy and Kevin Mitchell were the two guys that simply got killed last year when a team would line up and just bull rush them. I don't know how Mitchell will be able to hold up any better at that weight.

    MinterWonderlnd

  • Assuming no freshman takes a starting spot this year, for 2013, we will lose the following starters:

    OFF:

    2 OL
2 WR (assuming McCaskill is a starter)
1 RB (assuming Co'Shik gets the nod over Ray and Josh)

    DEF:

    1 DE
    1 CB
2 S (assuming Mikie gets the nod over Lowery)

So, even assuming Co'Shik, Gene and Mikie are our best players at their positions (debatable), we look to return at least 6 starters on OFF and at least 7 starters on DEF in 2013. Those numbers could be as high as 8 on OFF and 8 on DEF.

If Phillips can just get these kids to perform this year, I think the entire fanbase will have something to be proud of going forward.

  • It's amazing, but somehow Tyler Robinson and Taylor Wyndham find their way into the starting rotation like clockwork. For UK to be better, they will need kids to step up and beat these two out. We know their ceilings, and they're not high.

Murphy was gimped all year after effing up his knee in the first game.

I think we should wait and see on Mitchell as he was just a sophomore last year and had a (whole) lot of growing up to do. That extra year can make a big strength difference at that age even if he trimmed down some.

But, I do see that as our weakest link.

Seconded. I saw BJ get mauled by WKU's defensive ends more times than I cared to count in the first game of the season, and he was at 310 or so. I don't specifically remember seeing it happen to Mitchell, but it's certainly a concern to have two OTs at 295 and 285 this season.

I hope that we see a lot quicker reads out of whoever plays QB this year, as I saw numerous sacks in the WKU and MSU games in particular that were caused by missed blitz and hot reads.

I think Taylor is going to be a situational player this year, much like last year. He was listed as a starter (at the fourth DL spot in a 3 DL defense), but rarely saw the field. I believe you'll see him mainly at end on passing downs.

As for Robinson, I think he's just fine as a blocking TE and he has the hands to make a catch. You won't see him running seam routes, but when he's in the game, he's a threat to block or hit a short route for a gain. I anticipate Shields will be more of a receiving threat, unless his blocking has really come on.

  • The OL scares me. The starting five is fairly solid, but an injury would hurt the unit big time. No depth there. Not sure I agree with the "or" next to Maxwell Smith's name, but it's likely a motivator for him and Newton. Love the personnel at RB!! Also, some nice athletes at WR, but very inexperienced. And, Robinson at 158 is going to get killed. Yikes.

I love, love, love the DL. That is a rock-solid, experienced, and athletic group. UK, for the first time in a long time, should be stout against the run and be able to pressure the QB. Both would be huge for Big Blue's back seven/eight.

Ultimately, we'll see some of the true freshmen needed this fall, especially at OL. The skill guys will get their shot, particularly in the return game. The 'Cats must be better there this fall.

  • that is wierd seeing douglas at tackle but 270 and a sophomore he could be good in passing situations. and with an attacking defense alot of teams have dt in the 270 280 range. that tells me the staff is really high on huguenin i think ukwu surpasses the 40 tackles and 5 sacks total this yr that would be big.

Ukwu needs to have a big year IMO. Last year before the year started we heard about how good he was gonna be. I'm hoping all that talk was just a year to soon. I know he struggled with injuries but still he needs to be better. So does Taylor Wyndham. I'm excited about Huggenin, Paschal, Douglas, and Coleman. We've got good number and talent on the Dlines but we still need guys like Ukwu and Wyndham to step up. Both have been here long enough to put on the necessary weight and strength needed. Now its time to perform.
