***2012 KENTUCKY FOOTBALL SUMMER DEPTH CHART***

  • vhcat1970 said...

Got that right. Decide if your base is 3-4 or 4-3, but don't list both. Silly.

I'll be honest, it is a bit silly that they keep on with this charade of having a base 4-3 D, based on the depth chart. I can count the number of times on one hand that we saw Ukwu, Rumph, Cobble, and Wyndham all on the field at once in a 4-3 set per game last year....maybe for the whole season. Why they continue to list Wyndham as a starter is beyond me.

I like the multi defensive sets and believe if you can keep offenses guessing you have gained an advantage. I would like for the offense to do something similar.

A lot of schools list extra positions on their depth charts, both on offense and defense. It's not an uncommon practice.

If you want to see an actual defensive depth chart then here ya go:

Looks great, RV. Where did that come from? Can we get an offensive chart with freshmen as well?

From that chart, I believe this is the biggest group of corners UK has put on the field in recent memory. Hope to see that size translate into some physicality at the position.

    JDHLaw11

  • A couple questions:

1.) Which receiver grouping on the depth chart will be the slot?? You could make a case for either the second or third, until you see Boyd in the second and Cunningham in the third. Neither of those guys strike me as slot guys.

2.) With all the talk about the WLB position, and how well Forrest is playing, is it possible we could see him slide over there or does anyone know if this has been tried yet? He seems to have size for the position and a nose for the ball.

3.) I agree with Minter on BJ last year. Guy got owned game in and game out pretty much. We need improvement from that spot this year. Not really a question I know.

4.) Just to add to the discussion: Who do you guys think out of the freshman will come in and be productive and actually help us? This isn't the same as me asking who you think will not redshirt.

I think Boyd and Cunningham could be good slot WR's, especially in the redzone. We tend to think of slot WR's as small guys, but bigger WR's who aren't exceptionally fast can make good slot receivers b/c they aren't being asked to run deep routes that take a long time to develop. In the slit they will often get good matchups where they can run slant routes and outs, using their bigger bodies to shield the defender from the ball.

I believe Forrest may get a look at Rushbacker since we're not very deep there. Of course that depends on whether he actually wins the Sambacker spot and/or how the backups at Sambacker perform. Another one to watch is Daron Blaylock as he could shoot up the chart at either Sambacker or Willbacker.

  • Im interested to see what addtional fat gets trimmed throughout Fall camp and the season. Still too many guys on there taking up spots that have no place being on an SEC football team. WIth scholarships at a premium and Cassity and Co making moves with Florida kids, I expect several kids to pack it up before Signing Day. Gonna post my list of candidates in a minute.

    MinterWonderlnd

  • Based on the freshmen and sophmore classes as well as improved recruiting moving forward, I think the following players may ultimately find themselves faced with riding it out at UK, or finding a new school that will allow them to play:

    Jordan Aumiller-JR
    Pat Ligon- JR
    Ray Sanders- JR
    Tristian Johnson- Soph
    Eric Simmons- Soph
    Tyler Brause- Soph
    Bookie Cobbins (no comment)
Jabari Johnson (injury and weight problems)

Simply put, there are better players coming in whom are younger and will quickly pass these guys up on the depth chart IMO.

Brause supposedly looked very good in the spring and is #2 on the depth chart. Doubt he'll be one. Ray Sanders loves football and is a great locker room guy. Doubt he'll be one. Still think Cobbins has a chance to be really good one day so I don't think he'll be one either. Not sue about the rest. I wouldn't be surprised to see another Olineman quit. A guy like TE Nared. I wouldn't doubt that Jordan Watson passes him pretty quickly. But who knows. I hope all the guys succeed.

    tWhit

  • Yeah, I don't know about those guys. A couple of them may move on but too many of the guys on that list were either hurt or moved which delayed their chance to play. You can't get too hyped about the promise of "better" recruiting. That claim goes on all the time and often it is totally inaccurate. I will get excited when we see guys prove it on the field.

    zcats

  • zcats you have that right. A lot of talk about big recruits that don't pan out for numerous reasons. Gotta come prove yourself before they get playing time. Oftens grades, behaviour, injuries or hurt egos elimate some of them. Let's give the guys on the rooster a fair shot before we start burying them.

    1003blue

  • 1003 that is the point I was trying to make. Some of the guys on that list need to get a shot before we write them off.

We are in 100% agreement. Drives me crazy that posters write these guys off when the player has not had the opportunity to prove themself for many reasons...injury, position change, and what not. Give them a chance and stop passing judgement without even seeing the player play.

Like I've said before many times. There are no viable correlations between basketball and football. None.
