2012 bball recruiting...

  • Chris and Jeff,

    What are your opinions on why this has been a bit of a dissapointment of a class... (I know we have goodwin and caulley, who are great), but we need a LOT of players and it seems we do not have much momentum with any of them.

    According to reports, Memphis offered Poythress's sister a volleyball scholarship and it appears that they lead or are right there with us and Vandy...

    Harris seems sure to choose MSU VERY soon... Stokes is seen as a Memphis lock and Jefferson seems destine to choose NC state.

    Not trying to be a chicken little person here, but looks like we could strike out until Spring.. what are your thoughts? Thanks!

    I agree with you. Get used to not having guys signed in the fall. They will wait till they know who is going pro. Plus this year has an extra twist with the possibility of a change with the early entry rules in the NBA. Just be patient...

  • Last year was a fluke. I hope all of you remember. We won't get the star power that we have been used to, but that has been us being spoiled. It is still early. AND, we are all assuming that the entire team leaves. I thought Terrence was gone and I thought Darius and Doron could have been gone, but they are back. And better for it. You don't HAVE to leave after one year. I'm not naive enough to think that it's probable, but not definite.

  • I understand that most recruiting classes are not wrapped up in the early signing period... but it seems as if *most* of our top targets are deciding soon or have already decided.. and we do not have a ton of momentum with them. That's all I'm pointing out. Just seems like a weird year.

  • Cal could lose out on the remaining fall signees...except for getting Cauley and Goodwin signed. Come spring, you sign Bennett and Shabazz and UK still ends up with the #1 class.

    While I love following recruting, I'd say I'm more anxious waiting for the news...instead of worrying about how it will end up.

    As others above have pointed out...a lot of unknowns exist. NBA rule change if any and who stays/who goes to the draft. Plus Cal could always be targeting a JUCO player or two...and maybe someone (unsigned) blows up their senior season and comes out of nowhere to be a 5 start level player.

  • I think a lot of players are putting off their decision to see if the "2 year" rule will be enacted or not. That rumor is going around these days, so it may be a possibility. I may be wrong, but that could play a huge role in determining who a player wants to sign with. shrug

  • Yea. You can only sign so many players. I don't know how a rule change would be handled. Would the NCAA godfather it in? Could be unfair to enforce it in it's first year.

    If I were a betting man, I'd be willing to bet it's a national Top 5 class when the dust settles. I wouldn't panic at all. Getting Cauley was a huge key. That ensured they'll have a big. The rest will fall into place. It's just a matter of who the names will be.

  • I can't believe there are people out there pulling their hair out already. You really think Cal strikes out on all these kids;

    You add any two of these to Goodwin, Cauley, and Harrow and we're fine. Plus, it happens every year that kids decommit from schools, so who knows who will become available.When did Jones commit to us? May? It is way too early to be hitting the panic button and call this class a disappointment. If May rolls around and we haven't added anyone, then we can chat. Kids are going to see what is on the court this year and won't be able to help themselves thinking they want to be a part of it.

    If that was the case we would be seeing a lot more kids holding off on making a decision, but instead they are choosing to go elsewhere.

  • For the first time in my UK basketball fan career I have absolutely no worries and almost no interest in recruiting issues. I have every faith in Calipari to get it done. The hand wringing will apparently never stop for some.

    I remember hearing something about this last year. Current freshman would be allowed to go, but freshman beginning with the 2012 class must stay 2 years. I haven't heard anything recently and with the current mess the NBA is in, who knows what the rules will be
