2014 Football Recruiting Class..how high will it be?

  • Just wanted to ask my fellow CP247 fans..how high do you think UK's 2014 class will be ranked.
    Top 25? Top 15? Top 10? Top 5?
    With a 36th rated class with just over 2 months to work with and a dead period during that time to overcome..Id say anything less than 25th is a dissapointment.
    Im gonna list what I think our class will look like..and give my guess. Feel free to call me overly optimistic! Everyone else does...LoL!!

    1: Denzel Ware DE..4 star DE is rated 97..I think he ends up a 5star..Stoops 1st of hopefully many 5 star recruits
    2: Drew Barker QB..Barker is moving up the Top 100. I think he too will end up a 5 star recruit.
    3: Quantivise Stoudamire LB could become a Cat tonite..not rated yet..should be a 3 star kid soon.
    4: Nacarius Fant WR..Bowling Green playmaker is rated 88..should hit 90 for his 4th star during his SR season.
    5: Dorian Hendrix LB High 3* lb is another that should gain his 4th star during his Sr year.
    6: Mikel Horton RB 4* rb reminds me of Ron Dayne.
    7: Derek Kief WR Top 100 wr is a 4*
    8: Greg Miclisse LB Good bet that this hard hitting ILB winds upa 4 star recruit!
    9: Jacob Pugh LB Godby LB is a high 4 star
    10:Deion Singleton DB 4 star db will probably join his fellow Goby players to UK
    11: D'Eric Culver CB sleeper cb could end up a high 3 star low 4 star kid
    12: Tony Fields CB Godby cb was recently rated a 3 star by rivals.
    13: Keyon Brown DE 4 star De is high on Stoops wishlist. Would be a perfect bookend DE to Ware.
    14: Drake Harris WR Michigan wr is a high 4 star recruit. At 6'4 he brings good size and athleticism to our team. Good basketball player that avg 19 pts a game.
    15: Matt Elam DT 6'6 345lb monster DT is unrated..but look for that to change. Bama and Clemson dont look at garbage. 4star talent imo.
    16: Daniel Cage DT Cincy Winton Woods DT had 22 sacks a year ago..16? this past year. Look for Cage to move up.
    17:Mike Edwards S 3star.
    I look for Stoops to pull in at least 1 highly rated CB..a 5 star type..possibly Jalen Tabor,Nick Watkins, or Wes Green. Also..a couple 4 star OLinemen. Schollys are tight for 2014..so..that could hurt the rating of this class some..but I look for room to be made for at least 20 to 22 again. The limited schollys keep this from being a Top 10 class..Im going with 14. A Top 15 class would be super nice..I think if we had 25 or more schollys to give..Stoops would be looking inside the Top 10. Just look at this board..we should have mostly 4 stars for this class. Depending on if a couple move up..and if a couple like Matt Elam are given fair ratings..we could be looking at 10 plus 4 star recruits!!

    BTW, great list! That would likely be top 15 at least if we have 25 scholarships available next year.

  • I think we end up between 17-25 in the final rankings. Everyone else above us is not just going to roll over for UK. If the Cats can consistently land top 20 classes, we will be able to compete with anyone on a year in, year out basis.

    Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, and it has made all the difference (Frost).

  • I'll be happy with a top 30 class next year. If we get to consistent top 25 classes we have a real shot at competing in the SEC East. GBB!

  • Depends on how they rank the classes. Often the amount of players is included in the ranking rather than just the quality. With only 13-15 seniors leaving we would be lucky to sign 20 after attrition. This may skew the rankings away from our favor.

    I wouldn't be surprised to see our avg star or player rating to land in the middle of the SEC.

    Good point Cats Den. Even if we get a top 15 class..there are gonna be 6 or so SEC teams above us..making it difficult to win consistently. I think if UK wins on the field..is exciting to watch, that we will keep geting TOP 20 classes..enough of these and you will have a solid team.

  • Just my thoughts on this, but during the first couple of years(and not counting this past recruiting period) I believe Coach Stoops is going to be able to sell almost immediate playing time for new players coming in. After that he is going to have to sell the idea of redshirting to build some quality depth. Hopefully, by that time(Years 4 & 5) we will have started beating some of these SEC teams on a regular basis and recruiting 4 & 5 star players to Kentucky will become a regular occurrence and we might even actually go to a bowl that is played outside of Nashville, Memphis, or Birmingham, AL for a change.
    At least that dream is hopefully closer to reality than it has been the last 3 years.

  • I had originally thought we would end up with a top 15 class. For that to happen, we will need to grab a couple of 5 stars to go along with the rest of the class being majority 4 stars. I feel like a couple other people in that we will be a top 25 class.

    Thanks bro..dv's are red with a -1 beside them. I have at least 1 stalker that gives me all 4 of his allotted dv's each day..killing my rating..but I dont care..I didnt pay to play here for a rating..they cant stop me from posting my ideas or opinions..however optimistic or crazy they may sound to others! I have a right to be optimistic, Stoops has more buzz surrounding UK football than a hive of angry sand hornets!!

    A recruiting class ranking does not always translate into on field success. Don't get me wrong, if you have a top talent, you are probably going to succeed more often. I am just saying that getting top 15-25 classes on a regular basis means that there isn't the same (1) level of talent disparity all over the field and (2) the depth is not as big of an issue as in past years. Over the last 10 years, Kentucky's 1 deep talent was able to compete with any team in the SEC not named Florida (don't know why, but we were never competitive with them). The issue was our second, third, fourth string talent.

  • Isn't Barker becoming good friends with Kief and another top prospect at WR? I wish he would pop for UK soon and get the dominoes to fall.

    Nice list, I would definitely want to see Fant, Elam and Barker to end up at UK more than anyone on the list, but that is because they are Ky kids who are D1 talents that can play, Fant will end up being all state for 3 straight years after this fall.

    I am a little surprised UK never seems to recruit Virginia considering that state produces a good amount of talent and is fairly close and same goes for North Carolina.

    Showing the kids we are a top 20 team each yr will get us the big boys.

  • In the composite rankings which is what really matter I think we'll be top 25 for sure. Maybe top 20. But on a particular site like 24/7 since they have Ware ranked so high or on Rivals depending on who we get we could crack the top 15.

    What are you even talking about. Who cares about UGA? We were 2-10 last year. We just signed the greatest class maybe ever in our history at least in the modern era coming off a 2-10 year. We could possibly break into the top 20 and beyond this year. And you wanna talk about other teams disappointments from signing top classes and the fact that it will take 4 years and beyond to see results. I think we should just be excited as hell to be doing what we're doing and we as fans should be giving our coaches a ton of credit. What they've done so far has been amazing. This staff is getting some of the big boys and they haven't even coached a game. I think its pretty clear something special is going on here. Will we win the SEC title or win 10 game who knows but its damn sure enough so far to be excited about the possibilities of those things happening.

  • No way of knowing how high our class will end up next Feb but I will go out on the limb and say it will by far and away be the best and highest ranked ever. I know don't have to be very smart to predict that but I think it will blow away the previous rankings.

    Good point about Virginia. Lots of elite talent. And also look out for Darrius Spivey-Nunn a ultra athletic 6'1 175lb cb from Paducah Tilghman. And his teammate Derik Overstreet a 6'4 235lb DE/LB...Tilghman continues to produce D1 talent. Big Pro-UK fan base there in Paducah. JD Harmon walked on..and any doubts that kids not an SEC talent should be gone by now. I also look for Josh Forrest..another Tilgh alum..to step up at LB..6'3 235 with good speed and a nose for the ball.
