33,000 Friggin' tickets sold and counting...Chris or Josh

  • Well my 8 is included! Could anyone possibilly imagine that we'd have this kind of response? I bet by game time the TOTAL COUNTED could be 40,000.....heck maybe more!

Okay with all this being said.....(1)...Do you guys know what recruits will be at the Spring Game?
    (2) What are you hearing about possible commits around that time if any known? My 40 + years of being a Big Blue Fan....The closest I've come to this feeling on UK Football was when I was introduced to Fran Curci during my playing days in High School!....LOL. The 1976 Peach Bowl.

Jerry's 80's teams with George Adams, Mark Higgs, Marc Logan, and Bill Ransdell.

Tim Couch and the Outback Bowl......Beating Alabama in OT.

Mumme's Air Raid Offense, and then the back to back to back to back UK bowl's During Papa Brooks and Andre's run.

But NONE....I mean NONE started the way that Coach Stoops has started without playing a single game....hell not even having a full on field practice. What a fan base! I solute all you LOYAL UK FOOTBALL FANS. I can't wait to see you in section 126 on April 13th.

  • 5368ppi suggested on another thread to have the spring game cost $10 to get in, but have that be part of a raffle for a custom UK van or truck. The catch being that you have to be present at the game to win the prize. It was a thread about the UofL spring game, so I thought this would be better if posted here.

I think the spring game should always be free to get in, and I generally think raffles are pretty weak, but I actually like that part of 5368ppi's idea. If the raffle prize is worth $60,000 that goes from being cheesy to pimp. So instead of charging people $10 to get in they could give people the option to buy raffle tickets as soon as they come in the gate. A $10 raffle would only need to sell 6k tickets to cover a $60k custom UK vehicle, with any profit going to the K-Fund. Some people would buy 5 or 10 raffle tickets at at time. They could actually raffle off something sweet at every home game. I think they'd also need to have everybody with a raffle ticket ending in (pick a number) win a UK T-shirt or something. They could probably raise a decent amount of money doing something like that.

Another option for the regular season games is to give a free raffle ticket at every home game to each K-Fund season ticket holder as part of their K-Fund donation (the larger donations get more than one free raffle ticket). This would help people absorb some of the blow in paying that K-Fund donation. They might even be able to raise the K-Fund donation amounts with something like that attached to it. The catch of course is that they will have to be present at the game to exchange the ticket for the free raffle ticket, and present to win the prize.

The Calipari Edition Rousch Mustang would be a perfect raffle item ..........

  • Selling free tickets doesn't guarantee butts in the stands. It just gives the athletic department a PR stunt to sell. It will be interesting to see how many fans actually show up.

How many are you predicting will be there Mr. FootballFan1st? What kind of bogus name is that for a cards fan anyway?

I actually went through this a couple of years ago with a non-profit corporation. Any non-profit organization that wishes to do raffles, bingo, poker, or other games of chance must obtain a gaming license from the Ky Gaming Commission.

It is quite a few hoops to jump through to obtain a gaming license, however, another non-profit organization that has a gaming license could sell the tickets with the organization that sells the tickets keeping the profit. I believe UK could charge that organization a fee / rent for using the stadium. It can be done, but it is not as easy as it used to be. But with the purpose for UK being just to try to attract fans, it doesn'i matter to most fans who sells the tickets.

A similar activity is done each year by Scott County High School. I believe Toyota donates a car to Scott County High School each year and they sell tickets from the start of the school year until around Christmas when they draw out the winner. Tickets are sold at $10.00 each. Scott County will also split the $10.00 fee with any other Ky non-profit organization that requests and sells tickets on winning the Toyota. Great fund raiser for Scott County because it is nearly a 100%profit.

Maybe a local car dealer like Paul Miller Ford would be willing to donate a vehicle for this purpose. Any school or non-profit corporation that has a gaming license would be eligible to sell tickets and the winner would be drawn at halftime of the spring game. This would be a nice fundraiser that could help schools and other non-profit corporations across KY.

  • I would really be shocked if the attendance is over 20K. Most people are signing up for the free 8 tix each, but more than likely not everyone will use what they requested. Regardless, will be a much better turnout than we have had in the past. Just want to temper expectations that are predicting 40K+.

    bthendren

  • Your point taken "bthendren", but I think the way the momentum has been building since signing day you'll be surprised. I feel, from what I've been hearing, is that we'll have around 40,000 give or take 3 or 4 thousand.

But my point is did anyone in their wildest imagination expect this kind of support without even hearing about practices or seeing the system? I for one was hopeful, but very pleasantly surprised!

GO BIG BLUE!!!.....SEE YA IN SECTION 126

  • Attendance will be greatly affected by the weather. If it's as cold and miserable as last year, 10,000 would be great.

Does every person who purchases a season ticket make it to the game each week? Things come up and the weather will play a key role as always but the UK marketing department will be able to say they handed out 30,000 tickets whether that's actual butts in the stands or not. As far as the bogus name, I prefer football to any other sport.

I'm just curious, but do you work for ticketmaster or the UK ticket office? I ask this because I wonder how you would know that "most" people are signing up for te maximum ticket #? Just seems that it would be pretty hard to know that many people without the inside info. Example, we only took 3. I agree that weather will be the big factor.

better yet, your AD can come up with some sort of gimmick like $1 beer so that will get people to buy tickets so that your not embarrassed by a team that was 2-10 not absolutely blowing your school out of the water with attendance at a spring game, especially when your coming off a Sugar Bowl win that supposedly everyone is so proud about. Guarantee that even with Jurich having a $1 beer promotion, UK still sells AND has more people show up for our Spring Game than UL. Bank on it

oh, I missed the part about the whole PR stunt part. There IS NO BIGGER PR STUNT than having a promotion of $1 beer at your Spring Game, which is exactly what UL is doing. SELL THAT

While the tickets were technically "free," there was a $1.25 fee for each ticket ordered. Therefore, 8 tickets would cost $10. While that isn't much, I don't think most people are just willing to give away $5 to $10 for the heck of it. If it is a nice weather day I would expect at least 35,000. If UK does a great marketing job to make it a "fun" day, with good weather, I could see 50,000 show up.

I think UK fans have a great thirst to have a good football program and be relevant in the SEC. If the word is spread to make it be known how important it is to attend the spring game for recruiting purposes, I believe the fans will happily respond in huge numbers. At least I hope so.

IMO, absent a win over a major football powerhouse, the spring game and national signing day are the 2 most important days in the year for a college football team trying to become relevant, to climb the ladder, or however you want to say it. I hope this importance is made known to the fans. GO CATS!!!

  • Wouldn't it be something if for the first Spring Game under Coach Stoops that we did have 30,000+ fans to show up for the game?
Has that EVER happened before @ the Blue/White Game?
Honestly, as bad as we've been for so long it's almost too much to hope for........but I am hoping for just that.
Am I dreaming? Is this for real? Is this really happening.........for KENTUCKY football? And while it hasn't happened just yet, this feels good.

I just hope this isn't a nightmare in waiting, to make us all feel worse than we've been feeling for all of these years, if that's even possible.

What's there to be nervious about, attendance at a spring game? I think UK will most likely have 25,000+ fans if it's a good day. UofL will probably have close to the same. I think it's great that there's so much excitement around both programs.

Honestly, 25k is on par with the number of fans that would be in PJ by the middle of the second quarter in any game they play. You know it's true.
