  • Anyone who has said on here that Joker is done for because he is over his head; anyone who puts any kind of blame on Barnhart, has been called everything by these "sunshine pumpers" who are delusional. Every year it is the same thing from the same people about this football program. How many games are we going to win?

This is what happens. We get report after report about this and that player and the upcoming season. How he had developed into now a SEC quality player but was signed at UK as a "wish and a hope". The SSP then start the we will win games with these very good players. Predictions start from the UK low of 6 wins to the unblievable of 9 and even 10 wins. All this predictions are based on not play on the field but media reports from UK.

Now supporting UK is fashionable. The SSP try to say we are the better fan because we support the team and Joker. In reality you are the worst fan. You accept what is on the field and call it a football program. You take one good performance from Max Smith and he becomes UK's next AA. You make excuses for losing which is the worst trait of anyone who wants a football program at UK.

So to all the SSP's, I salute you.

So says the horrible, terrible excuse for a human being.

He can recover but by my measures it takes far more that 2 weeks! There are plenty of players on that team that are truly being leaders and what message does this send to them? Put yourself in their shoes. Why do the right things if in 2 weeks you are out of the dog house and honored as a captian. Give me a freaking break! Heck I was grounded asa kid far longer than this for far less offenses! And guess what, it taught me to do the right things!

Sorry tWhit - I quoted my response to your tag, didn't mean to. Grabbed the wrong one.........

Sure he can. But two weeks removed from a drug related incident is not enough time to earn trust back. Especially not to the point of being honored in this fashion.

Amen Sarge! It was a HUGE slap in the face to the other players. It was WRONG. WRONG WRONG WRONG in every way. And there were plenty of fans in my area grumbling about it! Don't think it didn't go unnoticed. And if fans noticed, you can bet it didn't set well with the players either.

I am not sure we have enough facts to determine that, is all I am saying. I am not thrilled with the idea but there is not enough known to make the initial statement in this thread or condemn the kid.

Messing with drugs. What else do you need to know?!?!? Is that not enough. Players are required to be DRUG FREE. No if what or buts.

    1003blue

  • Again, you do not know all of the facts and neither do I. You are condemning the kid with one known piece of information and you don't even know the details of what you do know. There are numerous scenarios I can think of in which a kid messes up and then is a captain two weeks later.

Sorry pal, I DO know the facts, I am just not posting them on here. One caught using and/or in possession of drugs should NOT be named captian two weeks later or for the rest of the year in my books. You go ahead and try to put a spin on it anyway you so choose. That is the problem with society today, always trying to justify wrong actions. A WRONG choice was made by the player and an even bigger WRONG CHOICE was made by this coaching staff to honor as a captain 2 weeks later. Cover or excuse all you wish to. I was held to higher standards than this growing up, and I held my own kids to higher standards than this and I do not make excuses for those that do wrong. Yea you can redeem yourself, but it takes far longer than 2 weeks. We all make choices. If you make the wrong choices you should have to pay the price. With all those players on that team, this really is the best type of leader we can name as captian?!? If this is the case, Lord have mercy on us all, we are in deep do-do!!

Going to let you in on a secret. A lot of players smoke weed. If every school kicked off the players who tested positive there would be teams who would have a hard k l playing a game.

So that makes it okay?!?! Really? We are going to "excuse it because a lot of players do it?!? I am not dumb enough to not know this already. But again, my point is a captian is leader, leads by example, sets the example to the rest of team. So ANYONE (don't care if its a starter or not) CAUGHT doing this stuff should NOT be named a team captian, two weeks after it all went down. If you, as a player, are going to go out and smoke weed, you don't care about yourself, your teammates, your coaches, your scholarship. So is this really the type of captain we should putting out there to represent our UK team? I think not and anyone with any common sense knows the right answer to this question. You all can spin it however you want or make light of it or excuse it if you so choose, but to me its a complete disgrace to our UK team.

And I didn't say kick him off. I said you surely do not make him a captain to represent your team, that's my point. I know the team policy and NCAA rules. Although I will say a players getting their 4th violation before they are removed from the team is way to lenient. Should it really take 4 chances to get it right and learn a lesson when you are 18+ years old?

Bottom line is this is a slap in the face to other players getting it right ON and OFF the field. I don't reward bad behaviour!!

  • The universities have their own policies when it comes to drug use. UK has one of the strictest.
On to your point about making him a captain. I can't make a judgement on that because A) I don't have a clue what's going on with the drug case and B) I'm not around the program everyday.

Allow me to re-phrase, since I do not know all of the facts as you claim to know, then I am not perpared to react in the way that you have in each of your posts. I am not excusing his behavior in anyway shape or form nor am I justifying anything. Simply stating, don't have all of the facts and not willing to make an assessment until I do.

Fair enough. Trust me..........it's a disgrace to UK football and the players doing the right things. Enough said.

Okay, I misunderstood. Took it as a defense for the behaviour. I know these young players will make mistakes and do stupid things. Do things they shouldn't do, get themselves in the wrong place-wrong time. Thus the get out of jail card for first offense I do understand. However, with that it should take a player a good period of time to redeem himself before being named a captain. Being named a captian is an honor. It should be given to the players doing the right things both ON and OFF the field. You can't have one without the other. They are representing UK as a whole. That is my whole point. It was a very poor decision of the coaching staff IMO.

  • Well Sanders is another one of "Jokers Boys",just like Morgan Newton..That is one reason Mobley isnt playing more..This kind of favoritism has gone on since Joker has been here..

    wildcatdon

  • The point here is that there are rules and do we condone a double standard or not. It doesn't matter if you agree or not with drug use or if the entire team is using. In life, there are rules and consequences for getting caught using drugs. Under many circumstances, you simply lose your job. On the field, which is a privilege when compared to most jobs or careers, there are rules but consequences are optional? It should not be any different.

As to the question posed in the OP...
At this point, we're better off making the strongest statement we can to future recruits (not to mention the dwindling fan base) that we are serious about improving the program. We let Joker go now and publicly commit to hiring the best coach possible. Not specifically naming possible candidates, at this point, would also be prudent.

Could not agree more. In this situation the consequences have apparently been overlooked.

Yea, I've heard that from a few players also. Joker plays who he likes not who deserves to play. I've heard that from some of the players. They also said, if they got caught with drugs they would never see the field again because they aren't one of jokers guys.
