  • Normally I refrain from complaining about football coverage but today is kind of ubsurd. On the day UK.is up at SEC media days the lead story is about basketball recruiting. Not a commitment but on a summer camp. Really? Come on guys, I love basketball to but concentrate on football today. If it was basketball media days that is all that would be covered. Not saying u shouldn't cover basketball recruiting, it just should not be the lead story.

  • mtk,

Serious question... does it really matter? TCP has multiple writers covering many different UK sports and it just happens that sometimes one of those writers publishes a story about their topic on FB media day.

Just saying that I don't think there is any agenda hidden there...

UK was up at football media day yesterday and Matt had/has six stories and countless other notes stemming from that.

You mean live updates from highschool basketball off season tournaments full of players we may or may not get or care about is more important than a football season that is rapidly approaching and being discussed by our member conference by our team and teams we will play........absurd (obviously I feel your pain). fingergun

What do you think these guys get paid to do???? Anyone can watch a game we all watched and crank out an article, although it would be as good as what these terrific guys churn out. The bread and butter of the message-board-driven sites is the premium info, etc. done by scouting these camps and talking to players. This board, back to the KentuckyInk days, has been often the lone oasis for football coverage.

    Woosah, brother. Woosah.

You should know by now not to even waste your time, Chris. "Just ain't no pleasin' some folks"

  • And if Chris was writing about football, then there would be someone complaining about no basketball articles. It's like politics.

I'm still unhappy they dropped the intramural chess coverage. Bad form.

  • I realize there are articles up and I appreciate that. I dont see how summer league games constitute a headline, that is all. Like I said, I normally dont complain but it just struck me as funny. Sorry, I didnt realize I was not supposed to voice an opinion. And that comment is not pointed at the writers merely toward those of u who feel I am out of line for voicing an opinion.

    mtk4uk

  • And my comment was not directed at you, but society in general. You just can not please everyone unfortunately. AAU summer league is important, because coaches get to see recruits play and that is when offers go out. Summer AAU and early fall are the most important times for basketball recruiting.

  • Don't feel bad guys. It's not just this site. Bill Kings Sirius radio show was voting for the best interview of their 3 day live broadcast from Hoover. One staff member nominated Matt Smith (apparentily a big hit in Hoover) but Bill said "You can't pick a guy from a basketball school"

In response to fans, I think the staff changed something from last year.

IIRC, originally, the stories at the top of the page were chronological in order. One Saturday, the game article got bumped out of the group of four with alternating pics at the top of the page by basketball stories (posted afterward) and people complained.

Now, in order to keep both sides happy, there is always at least one story from each sport anchored to the top of page listings. At least I think there is.

At this moment, in the Headlines column on the right of the screen (not the top of page articles) there are eight links, all of them football.

Note: I am not sure what determines whether an article is a feature or a headline. Last year the staff had a daily feature on a single player (or was it a group, I don't quite remember) that eventually covered the team but it went into the "headline" column instead of the "featured" column.

To be fair, the most prominent article is almost always the most recent.

Just watch, there is going to be a big football commitment in the middle of the basketball pre-season and as long as it is the most recent story it's going to be the most prominent headline.

The staff hear has been killing it lately with football coverage. Chris even had a recruiting update request for goodness sakes. It's hardly worth stirring the pot because one article on the front page happens to not be a football article.

  • It's a whole lot sexier to hear about all the 5 star talent Cal is reeling in or has on the hook than it is to hear about some unknown, unrated or 2 star FB player that may visit that we're trying to beat out the Sunbelt, MAC and C-USA schools for, while hearing everyone say how underrated he is and then occassionally surfing any another SEC team site and see there board full of 5,4 and high 3 star commits with 10 new FB related stories and maybe 1 hidden basketball story in the last month or so..

The Peach Jam is one of, it not the biggest summer basketball recruiting events. Kentucky is the premier basketball program in the country that recruits the best of the best. It's going to get covered and get covered in a big way on this site.

There are FOUR main stories in the ROTATING carousel on the front page. THREE of those are football. I wrote SIX stories on football and posted a half-dozen other threads on the House of Blue from SEC Media Days. I don't know what else you want.

And then people wonder why we get so frustrated at times. We get criticized one way or another.. banghead

Well, under that theory then we'll not post a single football story from Thanksgiving until spring football. That work?

how does some aau tourney relate to kentucky basketball? i wouldn't mind the recruits interviews like football gets during basketball season.

but i'm with the OP, come on its less than a month til fall practice is open, and yet the big thing is a summer league for a basketball?? i'd be fine with basically zero basketball coverage in the summer.

but again this is why kentucky has this stigma. do any other SEC schools have basketball articles or coverage whatsoever right now?
