On the one hand I understand and agree with expanding the conference. On the other hand this team, in my opinion, makes no sense. I know geography gets thrown out the window but there are some ACC teams I would pursue before A & M. And I believe Missouri would be a strong & strategic addition. I would love to see Missouri/Georgia Tech or Missouri/Maryland; or Missouri/Virginia Tech.
After Jackie Sherrill developed the best Aggie teams money and influence could acquire, his departure created armageddon for the beloved 12th man and his legions of followers. The respected R.C. Slocum followed (think the Tubby Smith of college football) and won every year, but had a dismal record against the hated Longhorns. He left and the Aggies went south with a variety of coaches until Mike Sherman arrived. Sherman took several years and the infinite patience of the Aggie faithful to recruit well and rebuild a winner in College Station.
The Aggies would represent a strong, competitive team in the SEC West giving LSU, Alabama, Auburn and Arkansas all they want. Ole Miss and MSU would have difficulty against them. Historically, the Aggies have been way up (Bear Bryant) and way down (smorgasboard of coaches). Clearly, UK would have to step it up as a program to compete if the Aggies and say Florida State join. So, the question remains can UK win on the field the next couple years with decent to good players enhancing recruiting, better bowl games and climbing a mountain that may be higher than we think?
