About that talk we had about Vandy the other day...

Franklin, who cares about Vandy, but the fact his name is even mentioned on a UK board really says everything about the overall UK football program. We are now worried who "Vandy" signs and their commitment list but UK has (1) commitment and that is a Kentucky kid.

Everyone reads on here that this recruit has an offer from UK, that this one "likes" UK, and this one is going to camp at UK. All that is good but unless it translates into signings it is as Yogi said, "just deja vu all over again".

The best recruiting news any UK fan has gotten really is that UK is now recruiting in Big 10 country(Ohio) so I will take Jokers word that they (UK) is being selective with its free rides but eventually the rubber hits the road and you have to win football games with the kids you have and not the one's you hope to sign.

Only reason Franklin is ever mentioned is to somehow make Joker look bad. Otherwise nobody cares. The Legion of Dung likes to believe that they are winning the argument by bringing up Franklin's 6-7 first year. Yeah OK fellas. He's the next coming of Bear Bryant is that what you want to hear.

Some can say whatever they want about Franklin but he has changed the culture. Do I love Vandy? No, but I will give Franklin and his staff credit. They return 18 starters for 12 and finished the season last year with a top 20 defense. All in all he has done a pretty good job. They are on their way up, they also didn't loose three games by a combined score of 137-20... They competed pretty well with everyone they played and looked like a well coached team. Joker needs to get us to were we play like the GA and TN game week in and out. I hope he can.

  • A big irony I always thought for UKFB recruiting was to have their star recruits come in for a big basketball weekend and watch a game....

I guess we don't sugarcoat the focal priorities.

I think one of the reasons for that is to demonstrate the rabid fan support. Recruits at that level, I would imagine, want to come to play where they will be rock stars.

    Yes, I know.

I only fantasize that the FB team received the same adulation, importance and support of both fanbase and administration.

I've been saying this for years. I wish it would change. When Brooks was doing well it seems like CW always had 60-65k in the stands. Last year I was shocked that only 55k showed up for the UofL game, atleast that's the number I was told...

Can't control the administration or other fans, you and I can only control our own individual efforts to support players and demonstrate our own commitment to the program.

    See you in Commonwealth!

FOR ONE FREAKING YEAR they competed pretty well with every one they played and looked like a well coached team. I can give him credit for that as well. Its just doesn't guarantee him any wins for this upcoming year. As we've seen it can be really really hard to climb the ladder in the SEC. We'll see if "improvements" translate into more wins for that program.

I can't wait till we play them, I really hope we have some positive vibes heading into that game. I would love to see us turn the tables and beat them by 3 or 4 td's this year. I don't wish doom on any program (well maybe two) if Vandy were to win 8 or 9 games that's great I just want us to do well. I've always been that way. If two of the teams with the least tradition in the SEC does well that only makes the SEC look better. I've always pulled for the under dog, we do need to get some revenge this year, they ran it down our throats I would love to see us return the favor.

I just hope our young inexp Off-line plays well. IMO that's really the key on OFF, I think Max and the WR's have already improved a ton. On defense i'm most worried about our LB's. Some would say CB's but honestly that's a position that can look bad a week ago and when these freshman walk in it could change a great deal. Kids like Tiller, Zack Blaylock, Reed will make a positive impact. Tandy is another kid that's got a ton of upside once he gets here. He hits like a LB and has 4.4 speed. All in all I think we have a very good chance of sending a quality secondary onto the field in 12. I really do, LB is a position that just doesn't change over night though. We really need Malcom, Rancifer and maybe even Henderson to all really play well in whatever role they assume. In a 3-4 defense it's a must to have two terrors at ILB, I hate to speak badly of Sneed but he wasn't always a good MLB. He read well and was in position but missed a ton of tackles in space. Avery isn't like that, he's a stud in all aspects of the game. I would like to see him continue to improve on his reads, that's a quality almost all LB's need to always improve.

Malcom, Rancifer and Henderson are all smallish for 34 ILB's but speed and instincts can quickly make up for short comings in size. Henderson is a kid that really has all the tools. All he needs is his body to mature/develop into the 225-235# range and he'll be fine. At 6'1-6'2 with very long arms and great LB speed he can be a impact freshman much like Lowery, Coleman or Dupree were as freshman. GO CATS!!!
