In a "true" 3-4 de's never play inside the o-tackle. They typically play straight up in what is called a 4 technique. In our defense there is a nt, That shades, a d-tackle that plays a 3 technique (outside shoulder of guard), and a 5 technique that is the wyndham/ukwu position. We don't have a jumbo d-end in our defense. It's more of a proto-type d-end that plays on the same side as the linebacker/safety type. The 3 technique and olb/d-end hybrid (dupree) play on the other. We don't play a true 3-4. We play a multiple front defense with hybrid/crossover athletes In a couple of positions. At Times last year we went to a jumbo front taking Dupree or Wilson out and bringing in another d-tackle and at others we played 2 d-end types with one d- tackle/nt People have a desire to pencil in people to positions but the bottom line is that our staff is recruiting athletes that will grow into positions. Hyde is likely the nt of the future.

Thanks, we change fronts a lot and I thought the DT played out over the tackle on occasion and that was where Wyndham came it. You understand it much better than I do. I do like the fact that the front is changing and it gives the offense something to worry about. Before Minter we lined up early and mostly in the same front 7 spots and the offense didn't have to adjust very often.

You are exactly right. Our defense is literally "night and day" different than the old brown scheme...
