Announcement Coming on Monday: Joker to Voluntarily Resign

  • I cometely agree, I'm just saying its bogus that he is resigning, that's all

I like how they announced a crowd of 44,903 our something like that.

The announced crowd is always going to be the number of tickets sold plus game workers. Sure, it's inaccurate, but that's how they've announced attendance for years not just because of this year's awful showings.

From what I saw on Tv the crowd would be lucky to be 20,000 to 25,000 and that may be overstated.

  • At this point I would think it hurts academic recruiting as well. Unless you go to a school strictly for academics, how do you sell nothing to do during Saturday's in the Fall?

What they showed on TV did tons of damage to the UK far beyond football.

Hello. You went to Washington and Lee, I'm assuming. Lol.

  • Only way Joker will "resign" is if Mitch asks him to and there is a buyout settlement or agreement concerning the remainder of his contract in place. No matter how they choose to spin it, the next move must be Mitch's - the ball is in his court.

  • Problem way more than the head coach. Unless theres a minor miracle of a turnaround by r athletic dept aka mitch with real dedication to the football team now it want matter who the coach is. It takes total commitment to win in the sec.

  • I'll believe it when I see it. I just can't see Joker resigning. He'll lose too much money. I don't think MB has the authority to give him a $2.5 mil. buyout if it's not already in his contract.

  • Announce he is going to be head of football operations or something equally invented and let him finish his contract next year. A payout of any amount will make Cap pop a stitch.

Nah. I went to Centre. You, my friend, are the enemy :). One of my fraternity brothers father was a professor (meaning at W and L) there back in the day, however.

  • IF Joker resigns he looses 2.5 million dollars unless a deal is struck with the University. If he is let go he keeps the buyout. That is the way that I understand the contract. I doubt he will resign and give up that much money.

    12point

  • It's semantics people,he can resign and still get his buyout...By resigning it helps on his resume for the future..Getting fired doesnt look good to future employers..
Even though he sucks as a head coach,Mitch will still care care of the buyout as he should...Just resign today Joker...please

  • Have to disagree wildcatdon...whether on a resume or not is meaningless, everyone knows what is happening at UK and also know the reasons why. Anyone with a realistic view knows there are many reasons for what is occuring. It didn't happen over night and it will not be fixed over night. If you think a coaching change is going to remedy the situation or a big name coach will give us immediate success, then I don't know what to tell you.

You can fire the Pres, the AD, and the Coaches but, unless big and drastic changes take place to the entire athletic dept (including BB) then the trend of UK FB will continue on and on. This is the cruel reality.

  • Matt, what is your take on the Fulmer rumor? He isn't my favorite choice but a solid hire no doubt.

First game i have been to in two years (i have season tickets). We left at halftime. My guess there was less than 15,000 in the stands.

I'm not Matt lol, but if they make a change, I think Fulmer would be a good choice. He is a retread, but he has some recent enough success that it would get some exposure to the team, especially if they win. It's all the same, whether joker or somebody is here next year, they will improve. For basically half of the sec east, it's a given u will lose to scar, ga, and fla, plus one loss to bama, or lsu out of the west. That means a perfect season in your winnable games is 8-4/4-4... Deal with it, it's reality. Nobody else is beating those teams aside from each other, watch the damn games. Don't think Fulmer can change that in the next 4-5 years, sorry. And it does take time and some breaks in recruiting, which clearly uk fans are not giving. But, yes Fulmer could be an interesting choice, much like brooks honestly. Interested to see what happens myself......

Nicely put +1 most folks want to lay the blame soully at Jokers feet, and it goes way deeper than that.
Ur right it will not change our program to say Joker out, coach Whoever in.

  • "And it does take time and some breaks in recruiting, which clearly uk fans are not giving."

Are you really going to come on here and lable UK football fans as inpatient? Really? UK has had Top 25 attendance for football over the last 25 years sans the last 2 seasons. The fan base has consistently showed up to watch one of the most consistently poor products in all of college football for decades. Nothing makes you look more ridiculous than questioning UK football fans. They've been kicked in the nuts virtually every Saturday for 50 years, yet they have always come back for another round.

  • I hear all the time that UK just can't recruit much better because KY HS football just doesn't produce the talent to compete. While this is true that Ky HS football is terrible for the most part, Tenn HS FB isn't much better and Vandy is getting 4-5 4 star guys a year plus 8-10 high 3 star guys a year. UL is doing the same and it plays in a conference that may not even be around in 2-3 years, so, why can't UK get the same quality recruits as these guys? Even Western lands a 4 star or 2 every year and 2-3 3 stars that are ranked higher than 90% of UKs. Thats the Sunbelt, for crying out loud. So, I really don't buy into the "UK can't recruit much better" hogwash. Even if UK finishes 13th or 14th in the SEC, it should still be able to finish with a Top 35-40 class, but, it never does.

IMO, Joker recruits too many "Under the radar" guys that we're competing with MAC, SBelt and CUSA teams to get. That's okay if you do that on 5-6 guys a year to finish up a class, but, the other 15-20 guys need to be guys that can compete in the SEC without any questions asked. As it is now, those under the radar type of recruits are 75-80% of our roster and only about 1/3 of those working out. Throw in injuries and lack of depth, and all of a sudden you have not only questionable recruits, but, now you have questionable recruits that are freshmen or sophmores that are playing a big role and they're not physically ready to compete and not even known if they'll ever be SEC calibre guys.

Then throw in the lack of development and game preperation factors and this is what you get. I like Joker as a man and I know he has the highest of integrity and wants nothing but the best for the program. He loves UK and it's been deep rooted in him for a long, long time, but, he simply isn't the guy to take the program to the next level or even maintain the level that Brooks had taken us to. I truly wish he were because him succeeding is definately in UKs best interest, but, it is what it is.

With all of this said, I don't think you can go another Brooks route, hiring a retread, so to speak. Cutcliffe, Fulmer, Nutt, etc isn't the answer. While they may be proven X and O guys, recruiting is the key factor in our future and none of those type coaches are going to excite the higher level recruits. The majority of these kids want to play for a high energy, exciting style coach that they can relate too. I hope whoever we go after is a younger, more energetic guy who has something to prove and will bring excitement back to the program, the fans and has solid connections in key states like Ga, Fl, Oh, etc with an ability to bring in high quality coordinators and position coaches. To me, these are the top priorities for Mitch to consider when he starts interviewing candidates.
