Anthony Bennett

  • There might be some news tonight that Anthony Bennett has called coach cal and committed to UK. Some are saying they heard it on ESPN radio and on twitter from Matt Norlander of CBS Sports. Can anyone confirm this?

    UKFan_22

  • Not in anything that isn't a VIP thread lol

  • Haven't heard anything like that.

CIA Bounce coach Mike George said "no change" in Bennett's recruitment today.

  • A couple of things...when you get to late April & later, commitments don't break on the Internet. John Wall is the one exception to that rule. Most of the time, kids almost always set an announcement date when its this late.

Secondly, UK trails Florida right now despite what some people are saying. If anyone lands AB before official visits are taken, it will most likely be Florida. I would be pleasantly shocked if this were not the case.

May I ask what you are basing this on?

  • I base it off what the UK staff thinks & has told people very recently. No offense to Chris & Jeff, but the "possible impending commitment" story created & unfair expectation that UK fans have run with. UK may get Bennett, actually they probably will, but they're going to have to catch & then beat Florida for him.

    CMD7777

  • I don't even think Bennett knows where he's going yet.

So the UK staff is running around telling people that Florida is leading for a recruit they need/want badly??? Hmmm, I dint see why they would do that.

Awesome. You have access to the staff's conversations about recruits. Please tell more!

The nice thing about recruiting is there are lots of good sources out there. You can choose to believe what you want to believe, but I've never reported anything on one of my sites without having it on good authority from someone I trust. cool

Yeah, most of the time that's all you can do. Share the information. Everyone needs to understand that it's recruiting and things change in a heart beat.

It's similar to what MKG said, at the time when the question was asked about returning, he was being 100% correct. However, after winning the NT, things change.

We always have to take all the sources and information give and give a best educated guess. That's the best that anyone can do. (look at TJ, lol. The guy literally picked washington only to repick to UK).

  • well someone else started a rumor tonight saying in fact he gave kentucky a silent verbal. TeamBennett24 on twitter must be starting all these rumors.

That's the thing. It's 17- and 18-year-old kids. They change their minds 2-3x on anything... before breakfast. Everything is fluid.

  • JDrum can confirm I'm not just running around making things up. He knows who I speak with at times. We may not always hear the same things because we talk to do different people. When he first broke the AB story, I asked around and was told the report was a little preamature. There is more to the story, including AB really liking Florida & having some academic work to be cleared up before he can start taking visits. In the few weeks since I've been told that, AB hasn't committed anywhere & hasn't taken a visit. I have no reason to doubt the info I was given.

The last time JDrum & I disagreed on info, he was right. I hope he's right again, LOL. But with each passing week without a commitment, I feel more comfortable saying the story was premature.

    CMD7777

  • This is kind of where context comes into play. The crux of that story was that Bennett has been on the road for 2-3 weeks straight and has told his people he was tired of it and may be want to wrap things up without further travel. That was also communicated to UK, who felt pretty strong about their position after speaking with those close to Bennett. But Bennett got his "second wind" and decided to keep visiting after all (although it's odd that we're still waiting on those on the cusp of May.)

Thats about as vague as it gets.

  • How in the world is that vague??? I don't how I could be any more specific other than saying who I spoke with. It's relatively common knowledge Florida is in strong with AB - many analysts feel they lead - so what I have said shouldn't come as any surprise. My main point is that UK fans need to get past the notion Bennett is a lock for UK, because he's not. That, and if ends up at UK, it will likely be after he takes a few official visits (which JDrum basically said as well earlier tonight). That's all I'm trying to say.

I don't guess its vague necessarily. Just info that I read about a week ago somewhere else.
