Any good FB recruiting news after this weekend?

  • I was just wondering if any of the possible prospects are close to joining the 13 class? I thought after this weekend there would be one or a couple... How many more camps does Joker and CO have planned? Sorry for typos if i have any my laptop is acting funny... Thanks for any details.

as was posted in some of the stories run after the camps, many felt really good about the camps. Nobody committed because they said they were going to go home and talk it over with family. Dowdell from Grady(same HS as Caffey) I believe was one who said that he was going to committ while up here, but his dad said they should talk about it first when he got home. So hopefully there will be an announcement from him here soon.

  • For whatever reason, UK is not as good (or doesn't press for) commitments while kids are on campus like some other programs do. I'm not sure which is the case, but I really thought they'd nab a couple of verbals from this camp. Maybe they did and they're just not ready to go public, but I've not heard of any via my connections in the program.

  • Thanks alot. It would be nice to start landing a couple nice looking kids, especially goot O/D lineman along with WR's/LB's... Thanks.

  • IMO getting a commitment and then the kid backing out on the commitment is worse for the program than never having the commitment. IMO Joker and the staff want the kids to be sure before they commit and not just make some spur of the moment decision and change their mind later. I f I was one of these kids parents I would respect Joker for this practice and it would be a big plus in my council to my son.

Agreed. Especially after Joker's comments on signing day earlier this year. He talked a lot about establishing strong relationships before the kids commits so that later (after they do commit) they won't be easily swayed by other programs at the last minute. I believe Joker even mentioned that last year someone (I forget which commit it was) wanted to commit at a camp, but they asked him to hold off until they got a chance to know him better to establish that relationship.

It also does no good to get a commitment if they still intend to be looking around.

That is debatable. It can still give the impression of momentum and lead to other additions. Look at Vandy. Everyone has raved about Franklin for two years now, even though they've had a few guys who end changing their minds.

  • I 100% agree. The thing is 18 year olds are going to be 18 year olds. Some will sway even after being on board 4+ months... Similar to Davis, I think it's ok to allow a kid to pledge if they are the serious type that is proud to be a wildcat... If they aren't then I would prefer to build a relationship and take my time if I were Joker too. I just hope we can find and land some kids like Jo Jo, Dawson and others of that caliber. No they aren't 5 star players but I really think both would be day 1 starters in LEX. I really do, JO JO Kemp is better from what I've saw then any RB I can ever remember being at UK. His speed and strength are ideal, I love the shorter/thick RB's with elite quickness and vision.

Dawson has great ball skills and NFL boundary corner size right now. I love that. I really hope we can find some more kids like those two and land em. I know JO JO hasn't pledged to USF yet but from what i've read on others sites I think that will be his final destination. I just don't think he will drift that far away from home. Alot of those 4 star FLA kids are like that. I can't say I blame him, if would be hard to leave FLA to come play FB in pretty much the only SEC state that gets snow. As much as I like TImmons I would probably take Kemp over him. Both seem to be showing about the same interest. If Timmons was a big UK fan I wouldn't say that but from the way it looks he may end up turning us down at the last min, I really hope he doesn't, I would love to see his speed in the backfield and in the slot like Oregon uses their RB's (when we are in gun). It would be sweet if we could get both those guys... I also really wish Joker and Co would start going after Joey Bloomfield. He's so big and athletic I really don't know what's holding them up...

As crazy as this may sound to some I really think us only having 1 kid visable in the 13 class is hurting more than some or maybe even Joker realizes. Kids these days stay online, they have to be looking at that. We have all heard the cliche good ball players want to play with other good ball players, and as of right now we do have 1 very good one and a couple of quality juco's I just wish Joker and CO could start landing some prospects equal to or better than some of our rivals/foes... It's reallly odd that we only have 1-3 pledged for the 13 class while pretty much every one else in the SEC has 6-12... I wish there was something I could do.

One thing is certain if we get the 100 million dollar upgrade to CW things should change on the recruiting front a ton, if that were to happen I really think we should be able to get top 25 classes every year IMO. Sorry for typos my PC is messed up... Thanks for any info.

  • For many of those wondering about why kids aren't committing to the program they only need to look in a mirror. Those that help continue the swirling negativity around the program and continue to cast doubt on the viability of the staff are the biggest part of the problem facing the staff's ability to sign kids at this point in time.

I'd say opposing coach's cast alot of doubt on the viability of the staff. But, hey its easy to blame someone else for your own shortcomings.

Glad I've got that kind of power & influence RV, even moreso than his AD Mitch Barnhart saying in the media that Joker is on the hot seat going into the season

Elite level (i.e. BCS caliber) football recruits are not choosing whether to go to UK based on fans asking questions about, or even being critical of, the state of recruiting on message boards. Don't overvalue the role fans play on message boards just b/c you'll hear a recruit say something about it every once in a while. They want to go to winning programs where they see signs of a firm base the team is building on with a staff that isn't likely to go anywhere.

Until the team proves something early in the season (hopefully), that isn't likely to change except for maybe a commitment or 2 here and there. Its really that simple.

  • Logically I think most recruits know, or their coaches would tell them if they didn't know, that the situation at Kentucky is a bit dicey right now and it would be wise to see if the CATS can get out of the box on a positive note this year before going too far down the road with them.
If I were a recruit and wanted to come here and play for the current staff that's probably the way I would be looking at it.

Odds that he keeps his commitment with 2 years of HS football left to play??

Coaches can worry about these guys...as a fan, its not a big deal at all. Too early in that process to worry and analyze. At least for me anyways

  • I agree with those on this board that feel nothing will happen with recruiting until this program shows some forward momentum on the field. For those who would blame the fans all you have to do is read the football media. Kids may care what a fan says or not but they sure read all the football magazines and on line articles which rate us at the dead bottom of the league and have placed Joker near the top of every hot seat list in America. It is show me time. All the talk about improved this and that and doing things the right way are meaningless at this point. If we play well and win games this will all turn around. If we get another year like the last then everyone knows what is going to happen the only question is when. Fans can do nothing to change things. The season tickets are sold or not so we don't have a vote.

You hit the nail on the head, I really don't know what RV is thinking at times. I've bought two college pre-season mags and UK FB/Joker is talked of badly in both. And guess what UofL are picked to win the BIg East and are in the top 25... That sucks. I really wish things would improve under Joker I guess we will have to wait and see. It sucks that so many good players have got away... Just imagine if Dawson, Davis and a couple other good instate players would have signed... We would be a very different looking team right now. Joker or whoever ends up being the coach has to find away to land more of those types of kids. 6'3 215# LB's will never get it done at ILB during SEC play. It's a shame that Western KY probably has a better group of LB's than us... Something else that bugs the hell out of me is the fact that I really think WKU spends more on recruiting than we do. They have more NR and 3 star players on their board than us... They should never have half as many quality prospects than us...

People can say what they want but I'll take a winning coach with bad morals over this stuff anyday, and I like Joker, I just can't believe it has got this bad in only a few months...

Some can say what they want but I really believe "T" recruited alot more players than he got credit for... I can not believe it's June and we only have 1 in the 13 class. Another thing that's killing me is the fact that Joey Bloomfield and a couple more instate kids aren't already cats... I'm sorry for bitching but I hate getting on here everyday and seeing we haven't landed anyone. Sorry for my ranting, this sucks though.
