Are we getting a new basketball player soon?

  • Saw on another board there will be an addition soon....If so would it be Trocha,or maybe Torian Graham? Anyone have any ideas or answers?

    wildcatdon

  • Towns on Dec 4th.

    bigcat65

  • Towns is making an announcement as to where he is going to school..This is supposed to be someone added to our current roster.

I assume you are talking 2013 class and not UK's current roster. Correct?

  • He must be filling Harrows spot. shrug

  • Apparently it is Josh Forrest from the football team...6'3 230 lbs...interesting

    wildcatdon

  • the forrest Kid can play, very athletic and gets to the rim, very physical.

    Catfan6

  • This seems to be flying way under the radar. Seems legit, though.

  • Let me ask an obvious question nad it is: Why add this guy at this point? The only reason I can think of is Calipari wants someone who is very tough to go against the regulars in practice to show them how its done. Thats all I can think of if this rumor pans out.

  • He is very physical. I watched him play quite a bit. I would be surprised if he got playing time. It's not a knock on his ability, but he is a football player first. He wouldn't get pushed around, but he is a post player, he does not shoot it well.

  • Is Forrest really joining the team ? We need some physical players on this roster.

I don't know how far back you remember UK basketball but if UK was struggling early in the season RUPP would add football players to the roster for the UKIT. It was always " who is that," in the crowd every year.

Here's is some stuff off his bio: "The first thing about Josh is that he is such a good person - well-mannered, coachable, a quiet leader," Wyatt said. "He's such an athlete and a very physical player, the sky's the limit for him." ... Honorable-mention all-state in basketball as a junior and senior, leading Tilghman to the First Region championship and a berth in the Sweet 16 state tournament during his junior year ... Participated in track in the 400-meter dash and a pair of relays.

Thanks for the info, because I had no idea of his b-ball background. I wasnt putting the kid down but honestly couldnt think why he would be added except for what I mentioned. Now that I know some more about his background and Im not being sarcastic in the least I still cant see why he would be added to the team except to practice against the regulars and give them a taste of what toughness looks like.

  • I will repeat. I have watched Forrest play a bunch of basketball, he is a great athlete who is very physical, but he is a 6'3 post player. He has very limited range. I would be shocked if he plays any meaningful minutes. He is a great kid, but he is a football player. I'd say he is on the team to be physical with this bunch.

All that being said, he doesn't have to play meaningful minutes to help this team become better as the season progresses. Helping them become better and more physical via practice can pay significant dividends in March. We all know that if Cal thinks that doing so will make this team better come Tourney time and Forrest is a good fit (personality/character), then it's a serious possibility.

  • He wouldn't play any minutes whatsoever. Just a practice body if its indeed true.

    bigcat65

  • My last post was based on a couple people getting their hopes up. I believe he can help them in practice, but I don't see how he can help them with minutes on the floor. Great opportunity for him & I'm glad if its true.

Maybe I am misunderstanding things but what you just said is pretty much what I said about him being on the team as a "tough" practice player I just put it in a little bit different way.agreed

  • Sleepydog, That post was not directed toward you. We were saying pretty much the same thing. Lol
