Article Saying Petrino not on Barnharts list...

  • So much for that...

Kentucky not considering hiring Bobby Petrino after firing Joker Phillips - Yahoo! Sports

From Yahoo! Sports: Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes is among the candidates Kentucky is looking at in its coaching search.

  • This came out yesterday and was refuted by Eric Crawfords article who said Pertrino was. Old news.

  • Forde just running his mouth. Petrino may not be a candidate, but pitiful Pat doesn't have any kind of privvy info. More than likely, its just Forde hopin'. Petrino to UK would be a UL nightmare and by extension, PF's nightmare too.

  • If they don't at least have him on their list to call and gauge interest then there is no hope at all for Kentucky football.

  • Forde and Petrino have a long-standing hate relationship. Forde was the reporter who busted him for secretly meeting with Auburn reps (Bobby Lowder, maybe?) while still the coach at UofL (and while Tuberville was still coaching Auburn - whom Petrino had previously worked for). Believe Forde penned another scathing column about him in the last couple of years.

I seriously doubt that UK hires Petrino in the end, but if it did, Forde would be one of the first to pile on UK and Petrino over the hire.

Reading elsewhere that we may be hearing more about Petrino as a legit candidate in the coming weeks.....

That said, even if he wasnt on the list, I dont think that would give us an indication on how serious UK is about this hire. This is THE HIRE....everyone knows it, including MB.

  • Forde is a jerk....he knows next to nothing...I would like to buy him for what he is worth and sell him for what he thinks he is worth...What a clown..
The only person who knows who is on Mitch's list is Mitch...Imagine that...Do you think he calls these writers and tells them...? Nope..

A lot older story than that article because IT was reported by yours truly several days ago that the AD wasnt going to consider Petrino.

  • First of all, who gives a damn what Pat Forde says? Second, it don't matter if BP is on Mitch's list now or not... there are enough VIP's in the "selection circle" (with the power of influence) who can persuade Mitch, at any time, to alter his list.

I was talking about Forde's article, not yours. But you both were wrong. Not saying Pertrino will be the next UK coach but he is on the radar.

  • Matt, you think Mitch will give Bobby P a call?pray

  • Petrino = No thanks

My friend you couldnt be further from the truth, no way AD is considering B. Petrino or will he ever, I know that for a fact. Sorry I misinterpreted what you said but again no way that BP is being considered.

Wasn't the same animosity hiring Cal expressed with definitive denial of the hiring possibilities? Its a question not sarcasm.

Not really. Calipari was actually seen as the logical choice at the time. Most said that Barnhart simply had to do the due dillegence with the ncaa and that what he did. With petrino, I'd submit barnhart's job is to do the due dillegence with the people at Arkansas. If they say he deserves another chance then I don't mind barnhart giving him that chance. I trust Barnhart's judgement on this.

Personally I like the idea of Tubberville with Neal Brown as OC or Greg Roman, or Kirby smart better but i'd be happy with Petrino too.

You could be right but I'm hearing the opposite.

  • Regardless of whether you are for or against Petrino, Pat Forde is stealing somebody's air...

Probably is but this info comes from a couple of guys in the know who I played ball at UK with who have intimate knowledge of the situation. Bobby P. is a great coach but The possible headaches that may accompany him makes him personna non gratta here at UK in the administration.

Not discrediting your claims or sources, but situations change rapidly for various reasons. We were all griping a couple of weeks back because we thought MB was gonna be stubborn and wait until the end of our season to review the football situation. Boy, did that change.

I think with Bobby P indirectly saying he has interest, along with fans/national media outlets insisting this is a great fit, the coals just got a little hotter under Barnhardt to make this happen.

There are other acceptable choices out there, but to pass on one of the best in the game when he says he wants to come to one of the worst programs in the country?

You are right things can change overnight but the guys I have talked to insist thats the truth but if it changes ill be surprised because thee guys have never told me something that hasnt come true. If Petrino is hired ill have egg on my face and will accept all rebukes offered but I trust my buddies and will go down with the ship and will never look at KY football the way I have since I played there ever again. GO CATS

  • Petrino's just using UK as bait to get Auburn and UT to bite.
