I have no real rooting interest in tonight's BCS Championship Game between Alabama and Notre Dame but I do think it's a fascinating game for a variety of reasons. Obviously, these are two passionate, deeply invested fan bases and the two programs have so much history, so that makes it inviting as is.
But I do think Notre Dame has the two ingredients that can allow it to play with Alabama: a big, physical defensive front and a quarterback who can make plays with his feet. The Crimson Tide is the clear favorite but something has been gnawing at me all along that this might be Notre Dame's year. I think so long as they survive the first quarter and don't get overwhelmed by the moment, the Irish might just get it done.
Notre Dame 20, Alabama 17
Bama 27, Notre Dame 13
Defenses are about a draw. Bama has a better offense (13th in scoring compared to 73rd in scoring for ND). Intangibles (been there, done that before) go to Bama. Have heard some national analysts say that Notre Dame's secondary is suspect ... not good if they have to face Amari Cooper all night long.

I think this will be a good game for a while. Notre Dame has a great defense. I am suspect of their offense, but I am equally suspect of Bama's defense. Notre Dame has had a magical season, so I truly think luck is on their side. Alabama had the one loss to A&M, but otherwise beat a few good teams. I thought they should have lost to LSU, and I think they get a pass on A&M, because quite frankly Texas A&M was the best team in the country the last 7 weeks! That being said, I think Notre Dame has not played anyone even close to the level of competition they are going to face tonight. I think Alabama has already played 3 teams that are equal to, or better than Notre Dame (LSU, Georgia, and Tex A&M). So, given all this information, and my opinion, I expect Alabama to repeat as National Champions tonight in Miami.
Alabama 24
Notre Dame 3
