Joker Phillips will not return for a fourth season as Kentucky's head football coach, athletics director Mitch Barnhart announced Sunday.

First, I would like to thank the fans that have supported this football team at Commonwealth Stadium and on the road this year. It has been a difficult season thus far, losses none of us wished to experience and injuries that have taken their toll on an already young squad.

Hate to see a man who has served UK both as a player and coach go down like this but, under the circumstances there is nothing else that could be done. Hopefully the next coach will be able to right this sunken ship

I'm glad it's over but at the time I'm sad that a true Kentuckian could not take the program to where we deserve it to be.

Barnhart needs to get this hire right. Rather it be a up and comer or a elder statesman. The uk admin have to sale out for the football team.

Barnhart did what had to be done. I know his affinity for Joker, but his hands were tied at this point. UK football had become the laughing stock of the SEC and there's no denying that the team quit on Saturday.

We are being told no press conference expected and with the open week there isn't a Monday presser tomorrow. We have not been given a schedule for availability this week, although was told last week UK would likely practice Tuesday and Wednesday. Also, in a text we just got from DeWayne Peevy it sounds like UK hasn't even decided if Phillips will be available anytime soon.

Right Move but I too have a heavy heart. As a fan of UK football, I really hoped Joker would be successful. IMO, we as fans should honor his service to the University by attending the Samford game. Although he wasn't the right fit at the helm of UK football, he is the right fit for us Kentuckyians

Consider it done... this announcement was all the motivation we needed, for BBN to reunite as fans and rally behind our team again (no matter who the new coach is).

A year late but I'll take it. Now go get a quality coach and give him money to bring in great assistants and triple the recruiting budget. Pour some money into the program to make us a viable SEC football team.

I am happy for our program but my heart is saddened at the same time for Joker. I always wanted Joker to succeed, he has given so much to HIS University. Unfortunately, over the last year it has become evident that he just isnt' ready to be a head coach at a BCS program. Good Luck to Joker going forward.
Now the ball is in Mitch's court - make a GREAT hire and give him all the $$$ he needs to build a new program and renovate facilities. We cannot keep hog tying our Football coaches and expect them to make it work.

Well maybe they have sombody for the job. Would love to give somone a head start. Although I dont know how often that happens? Of course there is a couple names that have been mentioned that are not coaching.
