Mark Stoops, who oversaw dramatic improvements as defensive coordinator at Florida State and Arizona, and has turned FSU into one of the nation's top defenses, has been named head football coach at the University of Kentucky, UK director of athletics Mitch Barnhart announced Tuesday.

Stoops completely turned around Florida State's defense which was a hot mess before his arrival. He is an excellent recruiter as well. Very solid hire and I am very interested to see the success he has as a head coach.

He most definitely knows how to put a good defense on the field and that is the key to winning games. Glad to have him on board so we can start looking forward now.

Saturday's championship should be a good advertisement for UK, lets hope his Defense does well and it turns into a UK commercial all game long about how good of a coach we are getting.

Mitch Barnhart's "close to vest" mentality can be infuriating for fans and media alike, but even his harshest critics have to admit this is one great hire. May not be the out of sight home run hire many begged for, but I'd argue it's an inside-the-park home run.
