***BREAKING: MITCH BARNHART'S THOUGHTS ON COACHING SEARCH**

  • KickAssCats said...

Blah, Blah, Blah... I'm so damn tired of hearing how freaking great our AD is. Fact is that when Mitch Barnyard came here he was said to be a "Football AD" with all this experience with winning football programs that he was going to turn us around. He has not done didley squat for the football team. However, our rifle team and out tiddley wink team have won national championships. Personally, I don't give a damn about the olympic sports. When Mitch couldn't (or wouldn't) get it done for Brooks he should have been gone. I'm so tired of hearing the multitude of excuses for all these years of how we can't or why we don't win. I don't believe for one minute that a coach can't come here and get the job done. Someone has to have the vision and fortitude to make the RIGHT hire. I don't think that person is our current AD.

And so........what would you like to have seen our AD do differently in the past 10 years, if it could be done all over?

  • Meh. Just another sterling example of Mitch's utter contempt for the fanbase and local media. I guess I should actually give him credit for trying, but just reads to me like it's MY business so just piss off until I'm ready to tell you who MY new coach will be.

  • Mitch Barnhart has really ruined the powerhouse that was UK Football.

Somebody get C.M back. Or maybe Hagan. They sure knew how to run the Athletic Department...

Basically, "I'll speak to you guys, but won't really talk to you."

Yea, I thought he'd say we've offered X and Y&Z are the backup candidates.

Yep. I mean gosh. We as fans deserve to know when he interviewed the candidates, where he interviewed them, what offense they will run, how much he would pay them and all other info that applies to the candidates. Shame on Mitch for not telling us everything!!!!!

All the other athletic directors hold hourly press conferences sharing all of this information.

  • Good post! We have seen enough of mitch to know that he cannot get it done. Thru 10 years of barn we are averaging 1.8 sec wins per season.

Hop you would think that Mitch would at least try to inform the people. Those are the same people that are going to help fund any bonding, are they not. I personally am not in Lexington to see it first hand, but, I believe Mitch has made some strides with the athletic programs. All the sports except football have recieved the funding needed to prosper and build into winning programs. That money all comes from football, the least funded program at the university. Now I don't mean least in dollar amount I mean allotment to each program. The football revenue even funds the hospital. You can't keep taking from the football program and never giving back. It's not like the football program can afford to be philanthropic. Although even philanthropist take care of their needs first.

That being said, Mitch has done things with the other programs in the manner the football program needs to be built. Tackle the small stuff and eliminate them one by one. Was the program so far gone that in 10 years he could not have contributed more to the football program? I would hope not. Whom ever he hires needs to be a motivator, a public speaker, and be respected amongst his peers. After all the next HC is going to have to be a politician as well. He's going to have to fill the seats at CWS to help fund the bonding, he's going to have change the way 'people' think about UK football. That all starts at the top. If the people at UK want to change the program, then start with the little things. Inclusion goes a long way in building support. The more people as are included in the small decisions made, the more they are invested in the program. Something as simple as letting the fans/community know what your intentions are, goes a long way in gaining the support needed to accomplish the same goal. BUILDING UK FOOTBALL.

I think Mitch has his Pro's and Con's and his exclusionary tactics on some matters is a detriment to his popularity. I personally support Mitch (not to the extent you do) but, he does have some flaws. With the ramifications of this hire he should consider holding town hall meetingssarcasm, after all it's not just his job at stake, it's your tax dollars for bonding. In no way is this an attack, it's just some of my thoughts.

Wow, what is up with the Mitch Barnhart hate? You realize MB is the AD responsible for Coach Cal, Matthew Mitchell, Gary Henderson, and Rich Brooks? Both mens and womens hoops are playing at an elite level on a yearly basis as we speak..as is the baseball team. Brooks took Uk out of probation doldrums into a team that went to 5 straight bowls, beat LSU the 2007 BCS champs, beat Florida St, Clemson, UofL, I say let Mitch B.....B. Hes done quite fine hiring coaches thusfar. Rich Brooks was a success imo. Its not though UK is an appealing job, other than being in the SEC..

I agree with you BBD12. our football team has never been great and to blame it all on MB is crazy. Hopefully he can convince a coach that KY is the place to be, although since ive been alive noone has done so. The best ive seen is mediocre team going to mediocre bowls. Maybe that will change one day.

  • As soon as he mentioned "fit"...You know it's not a matter of who's the best man for the task at hand. Not who's the most proven in the line of fire. Not who'll get the job done in the SEC & win back the fans in short order. No the guy that will maximize the existing revenue streams & help cure the ATH. Dept. financial short-falls created by Mitch's past indiscretions. He's looking for a FRIEND! Someone to bond w/ on a personal level. (ironically, someone to replace Joker on multiple levels!)

One that will be a Yes Man, take less $$$ on his contract, less in the form of facility improvement promises and will make no waves in the media. Someone that 100% will not going to rock the boat & demand UK FB get's it's fair share of the revenue it earns. Someone that will accept playing second/third fiddle to MBB & Olympic Sports, just to get a SEC job & huge pay raise!

Look for Mike McIntyre to named UK's next HFBC in a matter of days. His contract will be less than Joker's. The staff costs w/ be less than Joker's...But the on-field results will be very similar!!! And in 3yrs...UK will be looking for another HFBC & a new AD.

If you don't like McIntyre then you would have jumped off a cliff at a Hugh freeze or James Franklin hire.

Looking for a "name only" shows the shallowness of a lot if our Internet fans. I for one don't consider McIntyre my favorite choice but I think he has a ton of potential. He's got sec experience, knows the south, has rebuilt a terrible program and has done it fairly quickly.

Mitch hired Brooks, who took us to 5 straight bowl games (last year was coached by Phillips). That is a Kentucky record. Does that mean nothing?

For those of you interested in looking at some statistics and not just your gut, check out a different post about coaches in their third year. MacIntyre stacks up pretty well to some other good ones...

    Football coaches in year three

Its all about year three (or before) in college football. Records for coaches we have heard of or are of interest in this search are liste

Did I mention I wanted a NAME ONLY??? Nowhere in above did I mention a NAME COACH.... I think I laid it out there pretty well...UK needs a guy that win the fans over, get it done in the SEC, maximize the existing revenue streams, that's a proven coach in the line of fire. (IE...The BEST MAN for the task that lies ahead of whoever gets the job at UK!!!)

Maybe that guy is Mike McIntyre...Maybe he's not. But I do know that If he fails...Both he & Mitch will be out the door in 3yrs...And UKAA will be MILLIONS & MILLIONS more in hole, due to continued lost FB revenues & more contractual buy-outs.

  • Matt, Chris, or Darrell,
Why did it take Barnhart two weeks to speak with media? (If you can call that speaking with the media. It lasted less than four minutes. He was asked four questions and gave a direct answer to one of them.)

Tennessee fired its coach last week and immediately announced a press conference. Auburn and NC State fired coaches today and immediately announced press conferences.

According to some on here, those ADs are way off base. True leaders work behind the scenes and don't feel the need to be seen and heard like the ADs at the other schools whom held PCs immediately.
