"BUYOUT BARNHART"!

  • Hoptown,

The fact that they committed Burton-Woodson and others. There recruiting was not atrocious, they had to endure the onlslaught of sanctions and in fact they had to take more hits because they followed Mumme. Tamme was the only one that Brooks brought in, truth be told is they weren't gonna offer but they had a decommit and had open scholly. Sure Brooks and staff had to re recruit them but Morriss first recruited.

Brooks did terrible that first year, that was an underachieving team. Not going to harp on missed opportunities and squandered chances with Rich Brooks tenure.

I still say MB did not want Guy, MB did not think Guy would leave. The problem is that he was caught with one man and that was Brooks, you must admit that many of his hire's have been atrocious and he was 1 game away from going down with Brooks. That was a 7 win team the year before Brooks

I don't believe the Parcells thing, geez, only one stated this was MB, never remember Rich Rodriquez, don't believe this for one moment and in fact never heard this.

David Cutcliffe chose elsewhere, others wanted no part of it, MB was unprepared having had that much time to find coach, He settled on Brooks because he was in contact with on daily basis on search. He was caught flat footed and had to settle. It was lucky for him that things turned around or he would have been gone as well
    IMO

    Real Deal 2

  • The nickname should stick now!

This makes about 5 million dollars now that "Buyout Barnhart" has cause UK to cough up with the Gillespie and Phillips contracts.

Would you still have a job if you cost your employer that kind of money in the past 3+ years?

You have convinced me. Mitch should have let Joker and BCG finish their contracts as coaches. That makes do much more sense.

Dumbest post of the year so far.

Mitch had the guts to get rid of tubby and the toughness to admit the Bcg hiring was bad.

Had mitch listened to folks like you he would have gotten rid of Brooks and we never make 5 Straight bowls.

Ad's have to replace coaches all the time.

The sign of a great ad isn't whether or not he makes perfect Hires. It's whether or not they admit when they make a bad one.

Are you kidding? You say he had the "GUTS" to get rid of Tubby, he didnt get rid of Tubby Tubby was threw at Ky. Ole Mitch isnt a great AD or even an average AD he is as poor of AD that we have ever had and if someone thinks he is the best AD that UK has had in 50 years then that person is living in a fantasy world. So all of you Ole Mitch apologists go ahead and say outrageous things about me and this other persons post but you will be just regretting it in 2 or 3 years if he doesnt hire a good football coach that can change the attitude and wins totals of the football program.

I agree, and I understand being upset. Gillispie was the worse hire, he had character issues coming to Kentucky. Joker seemed poised to be a good head coach.

From my understanding this is simply a money thing, would we want to buy Joker out thus likely taking money out of our coaching search, or give him another year (if that) in which the buyout lowers. Mitch has UKAA booming, I've never seen UK Athletics as a whole so good.

I wouldnt expect a FSU fan to know who C.M. Newton is but for anyone to suggest that Ole Mitch is even in the same universe as Newton was is delusional.

This is the second big-time, costly mistake hire under "Buyout Barnhart's" watch.

It is easy to recklessly spend someone else's money.

    Accountability?

Yes, I have friends and family etc. with mental issues too. If that word offends you so easily it's an issue with YOU, not the person saying it. . . The context in which I used it has absolutely nothing to do with mentally challenge people.

In time, the UKAA will most likely be faced with their second buyout of a major sport coaching hire by Mitch Barnhart.

He has haphazardly spent someone's money with these poor hires. Let's face it.....retrospectively, the Billy Gillispie and Joker Phillips hires and subsequent contracts were poor decisions.

Maybe it should be in his contract to pay a penalty?

I think the name fits......"BUYOUT BARNHART"..... I hope it sticks!

YOU ARE KIDDING RIGHT PEOPLE. DO YOU KNOW HOW TUFF IT IS RIGHT NOW TO BE AN AD. WITH TITLE 10 AND SO ON. YOU MUST FIELD THE BEST TEAMS AS POSS MENS AND WOMENS.
HE HIRED CAL AND MATHEW MITCH. HE HAS OUR BASEBALL TEAM AT ITS BEST EVER. BEST GUN TEAM EVER. VERY GOOD VOLLYBALL AND ON. YES HE HIRED BROOKS WHO DID WHAT TAKE US TO HOW MANY BOWL GAMES EVER. WHO DO YOU WANT TO HIRE AS AN AD TO DO BETTER.
NOT ONE OF OUR TEAMS ARE IN HOT WATER WITH THE NCAA. PERIOD. HOW MANY OF OUR AD'S CAN SAY THIS.

IF YOU WANT A BETTER FOOTBALL COACH FINE BUT UK MUST DOUBLE THE TICKET PRICES TO DO THIS. 6 TO 8 MILL FOR THE COACH AND HIS STAFF AND DOUBLE THE RECRUITING BUDGET AND SPEND AROUND 100 MILL + ON THE FACILITIES

WELL IT COST MONEY TO HIRE COACHES AND NO COACH WILL SIGN AN AGREEMENT THAT IS NOT SOLID TO THE END. YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THAT SIDE OF THE BUISNESS I GUESS. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO THERE CONTRACT LOL.

Remember that Joker was a coach-in-waiting. It wasn't like he had a bunch of competitive head coaching offers from other schools. He was an unproven commodity and was given a five year contract worth nearly 10 million dollars.

Why was he not offered an incentive type contract with performance bonuses? You think he was going to turn it down?

Mitch took Joker's compensation package from his coordinator salary ($300,000+) to $1.7 million. I know that in Rich Brooks first year, he made $700,000. I am not sure of his final year's contract. Joker might have been given more money in his first head coaching job than Rich was making in his 35th year. Not right.

Joker was given a five year contract. Why not three and an "if"?

Lots of questions in hindsight, but I raised the same questions at the time he was signed on as UK's new head football coach.

That's the new way that big-time college athletics works and the way that head coaches who under-perform are handled now ... just the way it is.
