Bad football rumors

  • Being reported by Aaron at BBK that Justin Henderson has left the football team and Nermin Delic has been kicked off for a violation of team rules. Not confirmed yet but not what I would call good news if true.

  • Neither guy was in the two deep. I had hopes for both but lots of guys leave a football team for multiple reasons. It is a very demanding sport on every level.

  • I'm also a bit surprised to hear Benton and Neloms are the starting safeties over Lowery and Faulkner (with Neloms at 1st string CB instead of Rice). I would expect an AA talent to be able to overcome a walk-on in a defensive scheme they have both been in for essentially the same amount of time, but oh well.

Unfortunately I've heard the same from a couple of people. Sad to hear

  • Wish both the best. Henderson came in with the "whose who" of an offer list that UK will get and just never developed. Sounds like Delic might have been on a tight leash to get back on the team with a scholly and just couldn't cut it. Not the end of the world, but the scholly #s are working themselves out pretty quickly.

  • If Henderson is out, does that make it 14 scholarships for the 2013 class?

I think it depends on what Dakotah Tyler and Brice Laughlin are doing. Also, Harmon the WR is suppose to get a scholly after the first year. If you include those 3 in the scholly plan, there is only 12 available rides as of today for the 2013 class. Any updated word on the first two mentioned? Sorry if I have missed an update on Tyler and Laughlin.

  • Man I was excited to see Henderson at the Spring game last year, but all reports throughout the year was that he's never play at UK. WTH? UK gets a very limited number of guys that are SEC size/strength, and at least 50% of them get kicked off the team.

  • ^ Haven't heard anything on Laughlin or Tyler, but at this point, I would be surprised if either of them rejoined the team. With the attrition UK has had since the end of last season (Elliot, Wilson, Hall, Trimble, Henderson, Delic), UK should be fine from a scholarship numbers standpoint in 2012. Hopefully there will not be any further attrition.

Best of luck to these two kids, sorry it didn't work out for them at UK.

  • I would understand the attrition alittle more if it was Brook's guys leaving, but Joker is losing the very guys he recruited. I know some will say that "all schools have attrition," and they do, but I'd really like to see the hard numbers of our losses vs. other teams. The problem is, when we lose SEC calibre players, we don't necessarily have SEC calibre players to come in and take their place like other schools do. Our depth cannot afford the samemm amount of attrition other schools can.

  • Ship is sinking. Prepare for the worst. I've been a season ticket holder since 1974. Thought it never would be as bad as 82. But it is about to happen.

Vs other major programs are "attrition" is less than what other programs face.

The agenda driven drama amongst some fans whe latch on to any report to bash our program is beyond annoying.

Remember the "smith has surgery on eye after fight" drama on here a month ago? Turns out that was false. Not saying this is false but give the drama a rest plz.

  • we lose one guy who was a tweener he just does not fit minters scheme at all. he was to small for a dend at 240. and not near athletic enough for linebacker he just never developed physically. nermin is a guy that may of contributed down the road but is he better than cobble rumph coleman chapman ukwu douglas no. so please stop using this as bs ammunition like this will make or break this team.

I don't think it's going to be quite that bad, but it's hard to be both realistic and optimistic about the football program right now. I'm not ready to give up just yet, but it's not looking great for Joker right now.

  • I didn't see either as a major contributor this year. I wish them the best though.

Seriously you lose two 4th string players and go with the ship is sinking line? Wow.

  • its gonna take time i love the youth but this yr is gonna be a growing season there is some very talented young players we as fans gotta give them time to mature.

    quagmire

  • The bigger loss is Delic. I was really happy when he decided to come back because you can never have too many big guys on the DL.

Henderson was the classic tweener. Too small for DE and Too slow for LB. There is just too much talent ahead of him. But I wish him nothing but the best because it seemed like he was good kid. Always talked positive about UK and had a big mototr.

I didn't say it would make or break the team, but Henderson has legit SEC size. If he was a classic tweener in this defense, why the heck did we recruit him in the first place? I'm not looking for reasons to bash, but the "sunshine pumpers" have every excuse in the world, but what they fail to realize when we lose guys like Henderson, is we lose quality depth. Depth is what it takes to win in the SEC more than talent! Depth is what we never have at UK! It's easy to say he wasn't a good enough player after the fact, but Joker's and co recruited and signed him. Some of you always have an excuse as to why the coaches aren't doing anything wrong. I'm not typically calling for anyone's head, but I do think the coaches should be held accountable. Everything is not rosy in UK fb right now.

    Catmando

  • One of the biggest reasons why a player leaves a program is because they are buried behind depth. We dont have a ton of depth on this tean (just look at the OL), but SLB/WDE we do have some nice talent with our brighest star at that position in Bud Dupree.

We always want to point a finger at someone, but this is truly one that is not a players or a coaches fault. When Henderson picked UK everyone was excited because he had some solid offers, including a Penn St offer. So it was kudos to the coaching staff at the time. But everyone knew he would have to gain some weight to be effective. However, for some reason, he was not able to do that. He has a great frame, but for some reason having trouble packing on the needed mass.

So in the end the coaches did their job getting a talented player that other big schools wanted. The player did his job by working his butt off for the school (at least that is the impression I got from Henderson). But it sounds like it didn't work out for him. Its a shame, but I can't fault anyone in this situation.

    Answer:

We weren't playing this defense when he was recruited.

Thanks for the insight. It's not particularly encouraging, but these things happen.
