Barnhart explains end of UK-Indiana

The Kentucky/Indiana series as we know it is dead after the central figures from each side failed to bridge their philosophical differences about the future of the series.

  • I've went back and forth on this all day. I think I prefer he neutral site over the home and home if I had to choose. I agree with MB hat having that game split
50/50 truly is an amazing atmosphere, and most importantly, an amazing atmosphere for BOTH fan bases.

  • I don't think that Crean really wants to take a lcking against Calipari every season, and playing on a neutral site lends to that probability. That is why he encited the fan bases intense passion(lets call it), so that they could create an advantage. And I don't mean the usual advantage of a home court. They were the single most hostile crowd that we have ever played against. South Carolina is second in my experience, but they are a distant second most hostile, IMO.
While Barnhart doesn't want to address that point, we all know what occurred that day. I would like to know if they were fined for that. Anyone?

  • Lets get a neutral site game with UCLA and play Shabazz. Noel will smack that ish right out of the gym!

While it was no doubt incredibly hostile it wasn't much different than the pregame and first half in 2009-10 when Calipari took his first team in there. It only calmed down because Kentucky took control in second half. Not sure why it only became a big talking point this year. That said, I don't think that's really all that bad. You have to play on the road. I guarantee you UK was better prepared for Miss. State/Vanderbilt/Tennessee because of that game.

  • UK says IU "limited Kats to 100 tickets"..ok..didn't UK limit Indiana in the same way at Rupp two years ago??

  • several reasons come to mind as to why uk wants a neutral site. the recruiting presence in Louisville is one, more ticket accessability for the fans, storming the court not as likely. others are involved i am sure, but i agree with Cal.

  • IU's victory over us was made to be such a huge deal, not only by the Hoosiers but by ESPN and analysts. I think the commercial and some of the things that followed that game left a sour taste in the mouths of many UK fans and people at UK. Name another time you remember a commerical being made about a regular season college basketball game? Crean was not exactly gracious in victory. Their fans were flat out ignorant about he entire deal.

Making UK out to be the bad guy in this deal is not right either. We did not walk away from the series, we walked away from the location. All of us old timers remember when Knight did the same thing to UK years ago. He refused to come to Rupp. I find it ironic that the very year Knight is so hostile towards UK that Cal pulls the plug on the playing in Bloomington.

The problem I have with ending the game is that I cant just come up with a team that I really want to play. There are no teams in the Big Ten that turn me on. I guess playing Minnesota would be fun, but Tubby would never go for that. Personally I dont want to play Cincy or Memphis simply because I hate them. If I had to pick a team to add to the schedule it might be Syracuse but Jim B wont leave New York until Big East play.

Going out West might be an option and if I did I would schedule Arizona...Screw UCLA, I hate them too.

  • And there were no riots in Kentucky, let's be honest.

I don't think it's a tit-fot-tat comment, just a statement of fact that the home-and-home set up limits most fans from seeing that matchup only every other year.

Unfortunately, now fans don't get to see it any year. There goes that logic.

Not true, you know that the NCAA will place us in the same region or half of the bracket in the NCAA so that we have to get through each other to make the NCAA Title game. peace

  • IU sucks much more than UofL.

Years ago that series was a big deal but not anymore.

Lets play someone that will get UK the press like play some team for the troops in the ME.

Cats in Iraq kinda sounds good.
