What the SEC title race or for AO's services? The former will be won by UK without a doubt. Mizzou won't be nearly as good next year. Talent-wise UK will be much better than this past season's KU team save TRob.

Just watched him on Tim Brando's show. Said the Tigers are loaded next year with a couple of good xfers who just sat out.

I'm by no means conceding the title to them, but it sure sounds like they're going to be a factor.

  • They'll finish 3rd behind UK and UF.

The more I think about it Oriakhi may be the missing piece for us that we need next year. He is a sr, has a national title under his belt, has a familiarity with Noel's style, and could be the banger we need to fill Jones shoes.

His averages really dipped this year but look at his So year. He averaged 8.7 reb and 9.6pts a game. I would think that Cal could motivate him to do better than that here with the carrot of the NBA draft dangling in front of him...

That may be true, but I don't see how this (or any other) battle for Oriakhi will determine or effect the 2013 SEC Title... in any way, shape or form.

I thought the Final Four would be like that.

Mizzou will be very solid. Arguably their best player got hurt and missed the entire season in Laurence Bowers, a 6-8 senior. Also, they will have one of the best PG in the country next season in Phil Pressey, and another returning starting guard is back. They will be bringing in a couple juco big men as well that will likely factor in.

As far as the good transfers, they are very good. Earnest Ross, who started at Auburn and scored 13 and grabbed 6 rebounds a game. In addition to, Keion Bell, who scored 19 a game at Pepperdine. They also have another one from Oregon, Jabari Brown, he will come in the second semester I'm pretty sure, but he was a 5* recruit. They will definitely be a factor in the SEC, add Oriakhi, I could see how people might like them as the favorites.

Being a factor and being better than UK are two different things. They better get used to it. Oh wait they already are...

Mizzou will be good don't get me wrong, but they underestimate the SEC and they seem to think KU is better than UK. They will be sorely mistaken. They will end up hating us more than those birds.

  • MIZZ LOST ALMOST EVERYONE FROM LAST YR. PRESSEY STILL MIGHT GO PRO.
SORRY BUT THEY WILL IN NO WAY FINISH ABOVE UK AND FLA NEXT YR.
IF ORIAKHI GOES TO UK, UK WILL HAVE ALL THE MAKEINGS OF ANOTHER NCAA FINALS TEAM.
but make no mistakes Mizz will not be a top 10 team next yr.

  • I just fear that the presence of Noel, even though they're familiar with each other and have talked about playing together, is going to scare off Oriakhi.

Think he's still chapped from Andre Drummond stealing his minutes at UConn last season. The staff just never figured out how to use those two guys together.

I guess we'll see. UK could definitely use him though.

Chris I agree about the possibility for Oriakhi maybe not wanting to compete again for playing time. In the end with most of the kids, (I can understand why) it comes down to playing time. Championships are secondary to them. What Cal did this year with this team is amazing when you think how he used basically 6..maybe seven players and each got enough shots and each was content to play for the team. Having said that I really wish Oriakhi would come. He would be such a mature, physical force in the middle and I think he would start at 5 and most likely Noel would start at 4. They would each make the other so much better. I can then see Wilther getting huge minutes for each either to rest or foul trouble. Poythress at the three, Goodwin at two guard and Harrow at the point. I was so scared this year that we were one injury away from disaster. If we could possible add both Bennett and Oriakhi we could go a solid 8 deep with the starters above along with Bennett, Wiltjer, and Hood (whom I believe will give us better minutes than some think). I don't guess it hurts to dream a little.

Or maybe he's just ticked that Randolph Morris, Jr got more playing time when he looked out of shape and lackadaisical about most games I saw him play.

The thing UK has very little of next year from its returnees is experience and toughness. Oriakhi brings both of those things. Bennett is still an unknown at college level.

  • I'll gladly conceed the SEC championship to Mizz if it means #9!biggrin

Oriaki is the missing link for us imo though.

And we all saw what senior leadership did for us this year with Miller. crackwhip

  • IMHO it's six of one and half dozen of another. We need Oriaki's experience and defense but we also need Bennet's scoring. This year we had 7 scorers and 6 defenders.

Agree that they need scoring, but Bennett has never been an explosive scorer. I think there's some long-term potential there, but every time I've watched him play (more than a dozen times) he usually gets 10-13 points.

People are more in love with his frame and potential than anything.
