To be fair to Duke, they do compare very favorably to the Ivy League. They'll never get in though (too much of an old boys' club) and I think they value their basketball too much to make the jump. I don't think Ivy league schools offer athletic scholarships, but I may be wrong on that.
I think that people see the idea of 4 superconferences as a good thing because of "conference pride". People seem to like that the SEC beats up on everyone and that we are part of it. To be honest, I really hate all SEC schools except for Kentucky, LSU and Georgia. I only like LSU somewhat because of the Hat and Georgia just because it's a damned good school. Otherwise, they can all burn in a pit, as far as I'm concerned. I don't like the four superconference idea at all. I think we can see a taste of what that will be like with the superconference Big East. It's clear that Syracuse and Pitt weren't too keen on that either, and they bailed. I know it's about the football, but the end product of the super powered Big East was a Big Yawn. I would prefer to go back to having nice 8-10 sized conferences where everyone plays everyone every year.

The next available team from said conference. Now, not sure if that is based on conf record, div champ, or polls. This yr it would have been one of the following setups: OKLA (champ but not one of top 3 conf champs) vs Ark(polls); OU vs GA(other Div champ) and (also best conf record). This takes into account also that Bama wasn't available due to that they would have been in playoff as wildcard. If I'm not mistaken, this yrs playoff (using top 3 champs and wildcard) would have been: LSU (SEC) Oregon (PAC-12) Wisconsin (B1G) Alabama (wildcard)
Not sure what the scenario would be if you only have 2 conf champs ranked in say top 5. Would they take 2 champs and 2 wildcards or top 3 champs regardless.

Granted I haven't read anything about this new bowl but from my understanding it will be the SEC Champ vs. the Big XII Champ as long as they aren't in the 4 team playoff. What I don't understand is how in the world will it ever occurr that both of those conference champions won't be part of the 4 team playoff? Seems to me it would be a rare thing that at least one of those wouldn't be included. Also if thoose teams aren't available, who plays in that game?
I'm corn-fused.

Could be the start of the 4 Super conferences. IF that happens I think we should grab UNC and Duke from the ACC and call it a day. The football side of things is already going to be the best in the land year in and year out no matter what happens. The SEC needs to shore up it's basketball side so adding UNC and Duke would be perfect as it would give us 3 Blue Blood programs to dominate the national scene.
or we could go for UNC and Maryland. Duke would likely get left out cause the only thing they bring to the table is academics, men's & women's basketball, and lacross. Let them go and join the Ivy League who they have often thought they compare too anyway. Their football program--and let's be honest this is all about football and $$$--will never be anything.
