Big12 ADs with some news today...

  • Word out of the B12 is that their ADs aren't interested in expanding right now. Granted, that kind of talk sometimes doesn't mean a thing, but it could have some ramifications for schools like Louisville, FSU and Clemson that have been known to be "shopping" of late.

  • I think if the ACC de-stabilizes then Lousiville will NOT be getting into the big 12, they'll pick up some of the ACC teams.

There is too much blood in the water around the ACC and the sharks are circling.

But on the other hand, Texas and Oklahoma LOVE being kings of the Big 12 and the rest being the paupers.

  • Tough to evaluate these sorts of public comments in the current environment. Could be posturing so as to avoid a tortious interference with contractual relationship claim -- i.e., no, ACC, we made it very clear that we were not pursuing FSU, Clemson, or anyone else; instead, they pursued us. Or, maybe the AD's truly are content with 10 at this time.

UofL fans have been pretty confident that they are getting in the Big 12 sooner rather than later, supposedly telling football recruits that, so will be interesting to see if opposing coaches start to use these sorts of reports with UofL recruits.

In any event, this whole conference realignment environment is so fluid and dynamic. So many moving parts. I don't envy the position of athletics directors trying to navigate through the myriad of issues presented by the realignment.

  • It's all posturing right now. NO WAY the Big 12 AD's really think its a good effin' idea to sit at 10 teams. That is almost as willfully ignorant as ND thinking its a good idea to continue to insist on remaining independent In football while being in a conference in every other sport.

  • UL fans will go nuts if they get shut out of the BIG 12.

U of L has ABSOLUTELY been using the "We'll be in the Big 12 next year" pitch...several commits have said so I believe. The Big East is an AWFUL football conference. I would have to think it would affect recruiting for them if the Big 12 goes off the table. I would use it against them all the time, especially if I'm a school in the SEC or Big 12.

They've been selling it like mad. Even their recruits are selling it to other recruits.

Clemson and FSU will likely end up in the Big12. I don't believe all this talk and I guarantee that the Big12 won't stay at 10 teams. Joker doesn't even have to use it against UofL because you know other coaches know whats going on and you can bet the talk is out. This can't be good for Strong and Co. Of course when you've got a known cheater on staff it may no make any difference.

  • UL will just sell to recruits that IF they don't end up in the B12 then the B10 will surely take them if they expand to 16... LMAO! Nobody truly wants UL. Perhaps instead of putting so much emphasis on their sports they should put more into their academics. stir

  • Yup, absolutely posturing for legal purposes. Following the SEC's roadmap, say they have no interest in expansion....BUT...if a team or 2 voluntarily gives notice they are leaving their conference (FSU & ACC team to be named later) then the B12 will welcome them with open arms. Then the ACC can't sue the B12 for tampering.

the ship has sailed for UL, the B12 has had a LONG time to examine and consider them, and have been found lacking. They are just not a big name, or big enough to help their conference make more $$$.

Exactly. Well said. Besides, it seems appropriate to wait until the playoff format is decided and Bowlsby steps in as commissioner in the middle of June. I think the ACC will backfill with current Big East teams when they lose a few schools. The fan bases of FSU, Clemson, and Va. Tech are squarely behind moves; the administration will soon follow. The big question is if UNC or NC State will fold to SEC pressure to join Va. Tech. If that happens, the dominoes will fall.
