Bob Knight's Latest Comments

  • Might have missed the conversation on here, but there have been some pretty interesting comments made by the Knightster lately.

“We have a situation in college basketball that really bothers me beyond anything that’s ever bothered me in my career. That’s this idea—Kentucky the year before last started five players in the NCAA tournament game that had not been to class that semester. And that’s that one and done philosophy that we have now.”

I wanted to see some actual debate on the topic versus just the "hes old" and "needs to be fired", etc.

  • Watched the video after posting. I was about to think that his comments might have been taken out of context... nope. Direct shot at UK's players last year...

I will agree on one idea he has. Treat these kids just like baseball. Feel free to go to the NBA straight out of HS, but if you come to college you are there for a minimum of 3 years...

Anyways, I need to figure out have PPat graduated without attending class... that would have made college much more enjoyable for me!

  • and he'd be wrong. I believe Orton is the only one of the group that didn't finish up his last semester.

  • Yeah its much better to berate your players and choke them and humiliate them until they do it "my way"...and let's throw chairs out on the court and let everybody know what a butt you are...the times are different now, Bob. This isn't the 70's anymore. You can't fault Calipari for trying to win as many games as he can, just like you did, and play within the system. That's all he's doing. It's called adapting to the game. Something you never could do. If you were half as good of a coach as you think you are, you'd still be coaching!! You aren't a fan of Kentucky? Big deal. We aren't a fan of YOU! So take your sarcasm and ride your rocking chair and quit trying to bully your way thru life. The act is really getting OLD!!!

  • Beyond annoyed with these latest comments, he's been out if line a couple times with comments concerning UK lately. Totally uneccesary and unfounded remarks from Knight. Glad MB responded, if there is any further course of action the school can take I hope they explore the option.

  • And.........Kentucky responds....

Here is UK's response, according Channel 18 and Alan Cutler: "The University of Kentucky, our student-athletes and their families take great offense to the blatantly erroneous comments made by Bob Knight that ‘Kentucky, year before last, started five players in the NCAA Tournament games that had not been to class that semester," "UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart said in a statement released to LEX 18 Sports. "Academic performance has always been a priority at UK and it's unfortunate that, although every starter from the 2010 season finished the spring semester in good academic standing, these myths exist. Our men's basketball team's APR score reflects our attention to academic progress and our student-athletes take great pride in representing the University of Kentucky on and off the floor," says Barnhart.

    onemansleg

  • That's the bad part, Jeff....ESPN gives him an audience to degrade UK and he does it every chance he gets. It really is bad for our program imo. So, where...when...or does it ever stop? All UK ever did to him was whip his butt on a regular basis! Why can't he let it go??? I want CLOSURE!!!

I agree with this, however he is not in a rocking chair, he is on ESPN and has a national voice. Why??

  • I agree. ESPN has to take this clown off the air. It's obvious that he has a hatred for Kentucky, but now he is flat out lying on the university. They need to step up and do the right thing.

  • knight,is a bully short and simple. He always demands respect from everyone but gives it to who he thinks deserves it,and no one else.He is and has been an embarrasment to the state of Indiana for years. His first wife was right, second one was stupid.

Nice response, however it will be a minor footnote in the issue.

I watched ESPN wondering if they would bring up this point... not a word.

In this case we all hope he picks the wrong place, the wrong subject and the wrong player... I hope he goes the Imus, Michael Richard, or Mel Gibson route and says the wrong thing at the wrong time!

  • If Bob Knight were making these comments against dUKe or UNC you'd bet your sweet ass they'd take him off the air. In a heartbeat. But he's taking pokes at the good ole whipping boy. There's nothing wrong with that.

No, don't give him a rocking chair, Jeff; a rock to crawl under would be more appropriate than a rocker.

  • Whats most pathetic is this is all Indiana fans have to get excited about. The has-been
"general" ripping on Kentucky with no clue about what he is saying. I used to enjoy the UK IU rivalry but now it's just a game on the schedule.

Bob Knight got fired from the job that made his name for being a creep and he's clearly still a creep.

yeah knight had some issues but his kids graduated for the most part. a better version of knight would be coach k at duke. very effective coach with a good grad rate. i kind of agree with knight on the one and done.

The BBN needs to flood and I mean flood ESPN with with a very clear and loud message that we do not want, request, or hope for, but DEMAND an apology from this douchebag of a human being. In no F**King way should we just sit back and bitch about this on message boards. Unacceptable.

Flooding them with emails and phone calls would do nothing more than encourage them allowing RMK to do his stupid schtick. Unless it came from more than just us UK fans. Really, if I'm the AD or university I look at legal discourse against him and ESPN cause that is the only way to get these dolts like RMK, Cowherd, and the likes at ESPN from spreading these blatant lies. Sad thing is because this is KENTUCKY, you know the school and state that most of America thinks is a redneck, racist bunch; it's okay... SMH.
