Bobby Petrino's Impact on 2013 Recruiting

  • What would the announcement of BP as HC do for our class of 2013... and beyond?

  • I was just wondering if we could get 3/4 out of trinity with Petrino at the helm.

  • Another thing to consider is... there are many parents of potential in state recruits, who are Card fans. Getting those kids are damn near out of the question already. Not only are they (the parents) still pissed at BP for leaving Louisville, but now they have this "cheated on the wife" character flaw to hold against him. (especially St. X and Trinity parents). To make matters worse, he's now coaching the in state rival. Card fan parents WILL NOT want their kids playing for BP... mark my words.

I hope Trinity is not full of Card fans... we'll be sh*t out of luck. IMHO

Again, this is all based on assumption... "IF" BP is our next HC.

  • There is a bunch of negative info about BP out there and could be that parents of present commits and possible future commits would not want their sons playing for someone like BP I know I wouldnt.

You just might be right about the Louisville parents, but then again...... However, one thing (among the many things) that excites me about BPcoming to UK is the way he will recruit Ohio, specifically Cincinnati. He's the one guy out there who can almost guarantee us to get looked at by the kids up there. Honestly, if we could add Greater Cincy to Kentucky, our recruiting base just might be the equal of Tennesse, Mississippi and maybe even South Carolina.

Jaw i agree with what u are saying there but its not like we are getting many looks from the Trinity & St X kids now, but with Quick saying if "if" BP comes to UK he would have to take a serious look at us makes me want BP even more.

  • I would have to say that most parents that are UofL fans have a softer side for the....extramarital affairs, considering the coach of their basketball team was involved in one. And using that coach as an example, he is still getting good recruits to come to his school. It will affect some, but not the majority. JMO

  • Well James Quick at Trinity said he would look at UK seriously if Petrino got the job..

If I had a son that I thought might be good enough to play in the NFL someday , if he has the right coaching to help him be his best, don't think I'd be too up tight that the coach got caught in his infidelity---knowing that many, if not most, men do just as bad except their sins aren't worth national headlines. IMO there are lots of goody two shoes whose outcries sound just a bit hollow to me.

I'm not taking a pot shot at any posters here, just talking bout the world as Garp and I see it.

  • Obviously we'd take a step up with some recruits looking to play in a high-powered offense. Kids these days know who the good coaches are. They know we just signed a Parade All-American QB and still have Max too.

I think Offensive/Athlete recruits would improve, but I still think we'd have trouble pulling in quality D players unless we get a superb D coordinator to go along with BP. D might improve on its own with an average DC if we make some immediate waves in the SEC in the next year or two.

  • Ryan Timmons would come on down, I would think. If he was interested in Arkansas while Petrino was there then it seems he would be able to roll right in here.

If and i know its a huge if but if we got BP and he pulled Timmons and Quick i would be more than excited.

  • All of this talk regarding Petrino being coach at UK is just nonsense and not based in reality.

  • I don't think Petrino has ever been recognized as a top notch recruiter.

His classes weren't spectacular at Arkansas, no where close to top-notch SEC programs. I think OUR recruiting would make an instant jump with BP. He can do more with less, which is what we need here. We have less, and he can do more.

  • I don't think the extramarital affairs will hurt BP much in recruiting. Kids and parents have one goal in mind, and that is the NFL. If Petrino can help the kid get there, they will look past those things. UL has some quality players with good character, who come from good families, and Pitino banging out some trashy hooker on a restaurant table hasn't affected his recruiting much.

Petrino is not gonna land top 10 classes, but he can get us into the low 30's.

When you look at the to classes, Alabama, LSU, Florida, UGA, USC, USC jr, ND, Ohio St, Michigan, Miami, Florida St., Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas, VT, Clemson, Auburn, and a few others are almost always gonna form the top 20 in some way.

But there is a huge difference in the 25-30 ranked classes, and where UK has been in the 50-60 range. You can consistently compete and win against anyone if you are always landing top 30 classes, not so where UK usually is.

Then you add in Petrino is the type of coach who can take apart any defense, and you see why he would be a perfect fit for UK.

I agree, that he has never been considered a top notch recruiter, but his name/style of offense is opening up more doors than just KENTUCKY does.

Here have been his recruitment rankings vs UK
    UL.......................UK
    2003 #35.............#63
    2004 #103...........#52
    2005 #45.............#67
    2006 #34.............#36
    2007 #41.............#54

    Arkansas
    2009 #16............#41
    2010 #49............#50
    2011 #24............#61
    2012 #34............#62
