  • Hmmm.
I wasn't expecting a kicker for scholarship with limited scholarships available.

Are we certain he has a scholarship offer and isn't agreeing to walk-on?
Not knocking his talent but surprised because of the number of available scholarships.

  • And JoJo Kemp committed to USF today.

  • Twitter feed said he received a scholarship offer and accepted it. Tells me he's got big potential because, like you said, scholarships are limited this year.

    Thanks.

It's starting to look like that "sixteen give or take a few" is going to be more give than take.

  • After watching the video, this kid has fantastic fundamentals. Good steps on kickoffs and FG/PAT approach. Nice job of keeping body squared and shoulders level on kicks. The only thing that I see is being late on FGs and PATs, but I did notice a lot of snaps that weren't that great which makes a kicker have to wait to make the hold gets down. Hopefully, that's the reason he was late. Anyway, I too am surprised that a kicker has committed with the limited scholarships, but with McIntosh being a senior this year and Mansour being a junior, the staff has to make sure they have a young, talented kicker.

  • They always start conservative on the numbers. It'll be around 20 by the time the dust settles. It always works out.

as everyone else I am surprised by the committment, considering the talent and numbers aspect of it. But if the kid can kick, the kid can kick. Hope he has the accuracy of Mr. McIntosh

True. Teams that overlook kickers often pay for it, too. Kentucky's been blessed with some really good ones over the years.

agreed. I'm always glad to pick up another Cat, but we are already disadvantaged at recruiting. Lots of schools don't ever give kickers schollys. At the same time, as long as he's the real deal, a great kicker can really make a big difference in field position/wins and losses.

    Catmando

  • Having a good kicker is a very underrated part of the game. I have no problem with giving a scholly to a kicker. Now (assuming this one signs) we will have 3 on scholly. I wouldn't really want too many more under scholly's until someone graduates.

We also have Landon Foster coming in this fall too. I have to say though - the video is pretty impressive.

  • I guess I'm still scratching my head...wasn't Mansour supposed to "leg of the century". We got Landon Foster last year and even if we get to 20 rides...is another kicker really a need at this point?

    - WR will be down to Collins, Robinson, Cunningham, Sweat, Legree and whomever at QB ends up at WR. We need some legit WR kids badly.
    - OL numbers are woefully low....need to add some legit beef up front. Looks like Hunter Bivins is a pipe dream.
    - DE pass rusher/run stoppers. Need one to 2 more badly
    - Depth at safety spots is down after graduation/attrition.

I just think having 2-3 spots down the stretch was a nice commodity to Henderson, Taylor', etc...I just don't see where a kicker adds anything to the team in terms of need given how badly we're struggling across the board on the roster.

    K__TIME

  • Mansour appears to be as advertised......."crazy leg strength, but needs to work on control/accuracy." Every recruiting site and analyst stated basically the same thing. That doesn't sound like the "leg of the century."

Spending 1 more scholly is not that bad.....if the kid is as good as advertised. He sounds like he has the leg strength, but pay attention to recruiting analysis of his accuracy. Take little stock in what posters say.

Mansour will be a senior when this kid is a freshman. McIntosh will be graduating after this season. Foster was brought in for punting moreso than place kicking, but can do both.

WR will have Whitlow and Cobbins to add to your list, along with signing 3 WR this upcoming class.

OL- We signed 8 the last 2 years (Lost Elliot), and already have 2 commitments for 2013.

DE- Is already off to a great start for 2013 with Ball.

S- Have Lowery and Faulkner as True Soph...recruited Harris, Blaylock, Wright and Kory Brown in 2012...added Dakotah Tyler back this season.

  • Mansour has the leg strength yes, but the accuracy has ALWAYS needed work, and it doesn't look like he has been able to harness that in. Even on his kickoffs where the leg strength can be utilized, he hasn't really been able to excel for whatever reason, but mostly the hang time hasn't been very good in my opinion and also placement. This kid has strength AND accuracy. Scary good at a young age, and at one of the most undervalued positions. I think the problem with Mansour isn't that he's not any good, because he's got talent. We just all expected WAY to much out of him when he got on campus.

    Hogan_Ryan

  • Often the fans explode the expectations way out of proportion. All analysts and recruiting sites were correct. They all said that he has leg strength for days, but will struggle with accuracy. They all said it....every one. It was the fans that exploded it and tabbed him the next great one.

Well, in all fairness it wasn't just the fans. Mansour was named to the All-Decade Team in GA. Regardless, bringing Macginnis in where he can redshirt while Mansour is a SR and Foster is punting will be a huge benefit.

    mjdotson

  • This tells me two things. 1- the staff isn't too sure on Mansour's kicking ability. 2- the staff thinks very highly of this kid. Foster is our punter, this kid and Mansour will battle for the kicking spot. Mansour wins, kid redshirts and then can show his stuff for four years. MacGinnis wins, thank goodness the staff took him. Regardless, don't see how this is a bad move.

20 rides will be the minimum this year. At the end of last season I thought it was going to be a very small class. Now I think it will end up around 22. It is at 17 currently and Summer ball hasn't even started yet. #s will be fine. This kid's video looks awesome.

  • I would rather that the kid that can get us 3 points during the game is a scholly kid and not a walk on. Other than the QB and O...kicker is next the most important scorer. Welcome aboard young man!

Agreed. Too many people forget (or don't realize) that the all-time leading scorer for most schools is a kicker. That is b/c they have more opportunities to put points on the board than any other position. They also determine, in large part, where the other team starts out field position after we score. 2 HUGE parts of the game that I would prefer to get from an elite guy when we can. Anyone complaining about us giving a schollie to a top 10 kicker is just bitching for the sake of bitching. WE WILL NOT SIGN ONLY 16 OR 17 PLAYERS!!!! ENOUGH OF THAT ARGUMENT. Some people are acting like taking him stole a ride from an elite 5* who was just about to commit.

  • It's essential to have a quality kicking game. See UT game this past season. Tydlacka was "The Man" in that win. On the flip side look at those games in years past we've lost due to inconsistent kickers, see Lones Seiber.

People need to understand that in the SEC on any given Sat. having a good kicker & punter can mean a upset win, LSU - 07, or a heartfelt loss like UT - 07. And unlike most schools in the SEC it's even a greater importance at UK. I can't remember all the close games we've lost due to the kicking game. SMH

Welcome to UK young man. #WeareUK
