Bud Dupree is going to be a fan favorite

  • If he isn't already, Bud Dupree is going to be a fan favorite. Quick wit. Unique way of saying things. Relentless worker. No frills. I am trying to finish Cats' Pause Football Yearbook stuff and was transcribing some interviews from the spring. For some reason, this Dupree response about the sudden expectations he's facing was really telling to me:

"I love the pressure," Dupree said. "They say pressure busts pipes but I'm trying not to be the pipe that busts."

  • Kid will be ALL-SEC and before he's finished at UK he could be a AA. The size & talent are there.

  • Dupree showed flashes of brilliance last season and has a chance to be really, really good.

And he's the kid that everyone was going What?!? on when Joker took his commitment while waiting on Jon Davis.

Yea I remember, I just wish Joker himself would have drove to Davis's house with Dupree and Dupree told Davis "I'm playing defense"...

Don't have an exact date, but it's always just right around July 4. Probably a few days to week after that this year.

  • He practically lived in the backfield in the Tennessee game.

Dupree was recruited as a TE, he spent all that summer working out as a TE, then was switched to the D and wasn't very happy about it at all. I'm glad he's settled in though and look forward to watching him play for the Cats in the future.

  • I'm looking forward to seeing him take off some heads! Something tells me Wyndam's hit on Tebow is gonna look like childsplay once we've seen Dupree in full force.

Good stuff. I suggest Nike start getting some No. 2 jerseys ready. He could be the face of this team in the very near future.

Any word yet from the SEC as to when Media Days here in Birmingham will be? I always look forward to going to the luncheon/dinner to see the coach and players. Its a lot more fun, though, when UK goes later in the day so that the event is in the evening.

They are July 17-19. Kentucky goes the 18th, middle of the day.

  • Bud's just one of those guys who, much like Randall Cobb, was a 3 star recruit and a 5 star football player.

    JDHoss

  • i think the fact the scouts did not no where to project him hurt his rating a little bit. the kid is a freak athlete for his size he may end up being a 265 pound beast of a rush backer.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. He playef well in a backup role most of the year and then really well starting, especially in the last game against UT. I think he is a stud and will do great, but the posts declaring him a future AA and a 5* are a tad premature at this point. Let's try not to heap too high of expectations on him this early.

  • jon davis wanted to believe what he wanted to believe the staff told him he was the only te they coveted they wanted dupree for the defense all along they let him try te for a couple weeks to satisfy him and quickly moved him to the position the new was made for him. davis can suck it im glad a kid scared to compete and that wants to be courted like a prom date signed else were. he wasnt a cat ne way.

I have a very good feeling about Bud, just like I did with Cobb.

I must disagree. I think this kid can and will live up to expectations and will go on record now by saying he'll be top 3-4 in tackles by seasons end. This kid is a pure athlete, one like we've not had on defense in some time. In talking with some of the current players his name is always brought up first.

How many 6'5 250 LB's have we had that can move like him? Go back and re-watch the UT & UGA games and you will see a freshman LB coming into his own. Hell he was one of the lone bright spots in the Vandy debacle. This kid is the type athlete that schools like Bama & LSU have roaming the field on defense. And he'll only get better with more PT, more knowledge of the game and more time in the S&C program.

I said he will be ALL-SEC during his career at UK and "could" be a AA. And I'll stand by that comment.

  • I just hope we can get good ILB play from Malcom and others. That's my only worry with our front 7, other than depth at ILB...

100% agree too. I just hope everyone (even myself) don't expect alittle to much out of Bud, we all know he's just a true soph... I don't expect him to have double digit sacks this year because I think (with a young defense) Rick is going to move him around like in the GA/TN game because the kid has shown to be able to handle the extra tasks... There were times when he played ILB one play and DE the next... Rick is going to put this kid right in the middle of all the action. It would be great if Paschal steps up and plays well too, that will only help our defense... I liked what I saw out of Paschal during the spring as well...

No. He's a true sophomore. I don't remember any talk at all of him looking around. There were some rumors about Josh Clemons, but nothing substantial.
