Caesar's 2013 college hoops odds...

  • The C-J's Jody Demling is out in Vegas now. Says IU is 5-1, UK 6-1 and UofL 7-1 in their current championship odds. It's gonna be a WILD year for basketball in the tri-state. cool

  • Wow, Indiana has 5-1 odds? WTF are they smoking out there?

A lot of people have IU No. 1 for next year. What kind of odds would you give?

Personally, I think UofL at 7-1 is a bigger stretch than the Hoosiers.

Eh, maybe my eyes are blind, but I really don't see them as number one. As for odds? Yeah, I'm not that smart when it comes to that. Just struck me as odd that people think they'll be that good. JMO.

Everybody back, plus some good recruits added to a team that played UK well twice last year. Just think, if UK doesn't go all Rick Barry at the FT line in the NCAA game, that's A LOT closer game than it wound up being.

  • I think Indiana should be preseason No. 1 next year, followed by Louisville and UK. Also think Missouri could sneak up on some people next season.

Indiana returns virtually everyone, adds Yogi Ferrell who gives them another dimension and Cody Zeller will be one of the best players in college basketball.

As far as UK, they may get off to somewhat (relatively speaking) of a rocky start but by the time the tourney rolls around, they're going to have as much if not more talent than anyone and they'll be a team I would absolutely not want to see in the NCAAs.

  • Plus you have to think of next year in these terms: there won't be a truly great team. College basketball lost a lot from last season. Going to be down a bit, especially at the top. It's anybody's game and that's why I like UK's chances at the end of the year.

  • Totally agree on Indiana. I'm not buying Louisville. They're still the same team that lost double digit games last year and beat an overrated Michigan St in the tournament. If Gordon didn't get hurt in the first half new Mexico would've beat them in the 2nd round.

Right. Same reservation I have. Are they the team from the first half of the season, the second half of the season or somewhere in between?

    Probably somewhere in between.

  • My only thought is this. IU struggled pretty bad on the road last season without the pressure of being number one and having a target on their back. How will they do when they can no longer use the "under dog" roll they played up all last season. It is a lot tougher to play great when the pressure is on.

UL fans were ready to run Rick out of town last season before the Big East tournament so I can't wait to see if they got it together or if the pieces fell in place to make them look better than they were. i.e. Not having to play any of the big dogs in the Big East tourney and getting an easy road to the final four.

Don't forget they struggled to beat New Mexico and Florida and played a Michigan State team that couldn't even drop a lay up. Was that just how good UL was or did the pieces fall into place.

Have to give UofL some credit but I agree in part that the pieces did fall into place somewhat. Florida absolutely choked that game away but UofL still made the plays to win it.

Pitino's defensive gameplan against Michigan State was nothing short of a marvel though.

Mizzou loses quite a bit from last year. I doubt they'll be that good.

I'm glad IU and Da Ville are ranked so high. Its gonna make it that much more sweet when we hang #9 with the Prince of LexVegas and his funky bunch. lol.

Did lose a lot but Missouri also gets Laurence Bowers back from injury and adds transfers Alex Oriakhi and Jabari Brown and Phil Pressey is one of the top PGs in the country.

I actually forgot about Oriakhi. Where did Jabari Brown come from?

  • I'm 'buying' both UL and IU next year. No reason to think they won't be primed for a run.

Oregon. Former 5-star talent that's had some issues.

Well, almost everyone struggles on the road, especially in the Big Ten. And they've got another year under their belts now, some additional talent. I think they'll be in the hunt for No. 1.
