Cal pays visit to Lacey

Not even severe weather could keep UK coach John Calipari from visiting Huntsville (Ala.) Butler shooting guard Trevor Lacey over the weekend.

  • Thanks Chris. Did you get any kind of feel as to where he WANTS to go? He did use "we" when he said "I don't mind sitting on the bench but if they stay, we'll have a really deep roster." Probably means nothing, but I wouldn't be a UK fan if I didn't read into everything an 18-year-old recruit says! I can't imagine we get both Jones and Knight back-if that's the case, would we get Lacey? Can't wait to actually know what next year's roster will look like...either way, we're gonna be loaded.

  • Cal won't recruit someone just to keep them off an opponents roster. If he's seriously recruiting this kid, which definately seems to be the case, he fully intends to play him. I think Knight is 90% gone, so, that would leave a 3 man rotation of Teague, Lamb and Lacey at the guard spot. Lamb will play alot of point guard if Knight leaves, freeing up some pretty good minutes for Lacey. He would be an integral part of the rotation, imo, for a title run caliber team. That has to be very attractive to a recruit, not to mention being set for life being a UK alum.

  • So, no commitable offer? Cal is doing his job. Preparing for all scenarios. Still think knight and jones could both come back. Obviously giving it serious thought.

  • The kid obviously wants to come to UK but sees one stacked team at the moment. For UK to even be in with Lacey with what we've already got speaks to our prowess on the recruiting trail. Could you imagine this 5 years ago? We were desperate and begging with spots open for playing time. We've come a long way.

  • I dont' see it quite so stacked. Lacey could be on his way to the NBA in 2 years if he starts off with the right frame of mind. Even if Knight comes back, there is still room for him on this roster. Look at Lamb...he still has to prove himself to leave after 2 years.

There is nothing wrong with going up against BK, DL, and Teague every day in practice. Ask Josh how he improved because of 'practice'.

If Lacey truly wants to be a Cat, he should go ahead and commit. Cal will find a slot for him. And if Lacey wants to play early, its about getting after it defensively with the minutes you are given.

It would be a huge get for Cal to convince Lacey to come to Lexington. The makings of a power team.

You don't see it as stacked and I don't see it as stacked and the UK fane base don't see it as staked but to a kid who is really good and wants to play significant minutes next year, he sees it as stacked or he would have already made the commitment.

Plus, he will not take Lamb's spot away. Lamb, as I have said before, if he does some work in the weight room and the like, will IMO be our leading scorer next year. I love his game. Lacey, who's game I do love also, is probably a "catch and shoot," and "catch 1 or 2 dribble and shoot" type guy right now from what I've seen.

He would acutally fit in very nicely here and his coming would pay great dividends for himself and UK for the next 2-3 years.

  • If the options are we either 1)keep Knight and not get Lacey or 2)lose Knight and get Lacey, I'm pretty ok with those options. Obviously I'd LOVE to keep Knight, but getting a 2+ year kid that can shoot lights out is a pretty good back up plan! I hope those are the only 2 options out there (unless we can keep Knight AND get Lacey!).

  • Being from Huntsville, I appreciate the article... we feel we owe UK one since the Marvin Stone thing didn't work out so well.

However, I don't know where the idea came in that "Not even severe weather could keep Coach Cal from visiting Lacey"... it was bad here on Friday, but by Sunday.... ALL of the severe weather was gone.

    Go Big Blue!

  • That would be an unreal sign if we could get Lacey and everyone comes back.

  • Update: Lacey had an in-home visit with Kansas coach Bill Self Monday.

Is it just me or does it sound like Self sees who Cal is recruiting and follows him around? Check for "bugs" planted in the Craft Center.

  • Now being reported he is going to take a visit to Kansas. You're mind could absolutely explode trying to read and analyze all the possible scenarios. Makes you wonder if Cal is in just as much of a wait-and-see mode as the fans... probably not.. but possible
