Cal's in home..Noel

  • I have been reading for days that Cal was suppose to have an in home meeting with Nerlens Noel. That his moms preference was all important in his decision. Well now its Wednesday and I have yet to hear a thing about this in home went. Usually info starts leaking out immediately......am I just missing it or did it even happen I can't find anything on it.

Cal met with Noel and his mother Monday and Jim Boeheim Tuesday.

Noel hasn't been doing a ton of interviews but based on this one with ESPN's Dave Telep from Monday, it paints a pretty picture for Syracuse.

  • I heard it happened, but haven't heard anything else about it....Cal is trying to stay in "last place" with the perception around the kid I imagine.

Yeah and I think he's doing the same thing with Shabazz.

What Boeheim offer him some free chronic?

  • I honestly pray to god I'm rong but I have a bad feeling about this signing season comming up...I don't see us as the leader for any of our top 3 and that scares me...unless we get a few surprise returnees then we will be in trouble witout 2 of bazz, Noel or Bennett

    esupp24

  • I think allowing in home visits at this stage of the season is ridiculous. You can't blame Cal or any coach for this. They have to do it to get the players they want and need. But these teams in the sweet 16 should be able to concentrate fully on the upcoming games instead of having to juggle in home visits and recruiting right in the middle of the preparation. The NCAA needs to do something about this. It's crazy.

Next year is fine even without the 3 players we are trying to recruit.

However, don't expect us to be in top 5. It will resemble more of 2010-11 season, but I remember that one ending with final four. :-)

I understand that we r a Lil spoiled and won't have a top 5 team every year but I'm not sure he can turn ever team that resembles last year into a final four run...that was a special run

    esupp24

  • I am not one to say anything about recruiting as we have been just on one hell of a roll, but something tells me we will not get Noel or Shabazz. Next year could be a smidgen of a struggle----I know we will be talented, but if we miss those two how talented?

  • From Evan Daniels on twitter, FWIW: "Nerlens Noel has his 2nd in-home visit of the week tonight. This time with Syracuse. Remember cut list to 'Cuse, UK & Georgetown this wkd."

    I disagree,

we have 4 players coming in next year, even with MASS exodus.

And, i doubt we lose ALL the players. Just don't see all declaring for draft.

With Wiltjer hopefully coming back stronger and quicker, we will have deadly offense from the 4/5 position. Not many can really guard that, and I can see us making an awesome run because we will have so much offensive fire power.

Defense is Coach Cal's forte, so if we have offense, we can always make a run. Being able to shoot 3, alway makes a team very hard to difficult.

    VERY TALENTED.

    1. Harrow
    2. Goodwin
    3. Poythress
    4. Wiltjer
    5. Cauley

Bench is short, so we would want to recruit 1 or 2 more players.

Gilchrist for sure. Teague staying would be a god send.

We would like to have either

    1. Teague / Lamb
    2. Gilchrist
    3. Wiltjer

These are the 3 guys we need to return to have a legit chance of NT.

We know Wiltjer is staying. I think Gilchrist's chance of staying is decently high. I think, between Teague / Lamb, chances of one staying is very high. I prefer Lamb.

I disagree on a couple things. I think we have a legit shot at a NT no matter what with what we know is coming back and what we're adding. Especially Noel. I would definitely prefer Teague over Lamb. The PG in this offense is the most important position imo. Can you imagine a 2nd year PG of Teagues caliber in Cal's offense and the defense? Can you imagine a team where Cal doesn't have to call every play from the bench? It would be like having a coach on the floor in games and practice. I'm completely amped about the possibility of Teague returning, if you couldn't tell lol Lamb would be nice too.

That's a very solid second five.

If we don't land 2 of noel Bennett or bazz(mainly Noel and bennet) we are gonna struggle till tourney time and if we don't turn it on like last could be out early..

    A starting 5 of:
    Harrow
    Goodwin
    Poythress
    Wiltjer
    Cauley

I don't see a final four run in that team...Cauley is not ready to be A starting center he's 3 year guy...poythress and wiltjer will be good but still a year away from them being consistently good...goodwin will score the ball and harrow will be great but we Definetly need help stil...we don't kno whose returning so for now I'm of the mindset they r gone...gilchrist is supposedly the number 2 pick he can't pass that up

Legit shot...is reaching. Also, I am responding to the comment if we don't get noels. If we have noels, i completely agree that we have very good chance.

Lamb over Teague, because we have Ryan Harrow. 3rd year PG, who was 5 star. He didn't have amazing stat his freshmen year, but 2 years removed, he will be much better and stronger. Should be better than Teague was this year. Having 2 point guard isn't that big of a deal, i don't think. With Goodwin on the team, Lamb being back up PG can open court for Goodwin, so he can do 1 on 1 easier, so Teague wouldn't allow that very well.

Teague coming back would be great, i wouldn't have any complaints. Lamb would just fit the overall team better.

    Brandon Knight (Freshmen)
    DeAndre Liggin (Junior)
    Darius Miller (Junior)
    Terrence Jones (Freshmen)
    Josh Harrellson (Senior)
    B: Doron Lamb

    is better than

    Ryan Harrow (Junior)
    Archie Goodwin (Freshmen)
    Alex Poythress (Freshmen)
    Kyle Wiltjer (Sophomore)
    Willie Cauley (Freshmen)

Hardly, and 2012-2013 is far more talented than 2010-2011 team. Wiltjer is already amazing offensive player, if he learned little bit more on defense he becomes deadly.

and like i said in previous post. I don't expect ALL the players to declare. I expect 1 or 2 to stay. That's enough to move 2012-2013 team over 2010-2011 team. Also, keep in mind that 2012-2013 could recruit more players. Maybe not Bennet, Noels, or Shabazz.

Where did you get Cauley is a 3 year player? He came here wanted to become NBA. I say he is a 2 year player. He is a extremely long player that played wide receiver...He isn't slow and can move. I expect him to be solid player.
