Cal's top targets he has lost

  • So the only one that comes to mind is Perry Ellis. All the other "percieved" lost recruits are likely chalked up to Cal not actually wanting them or they had conditional offers. This is mainly a question for Chris, but what is the ratio to Cal's top targets landed to those that have sailed? It has to be some incredibly high percentage.

  • Seemed like he wanted CJ Leslie pretty bad, but wanted Terrence Jones just as bad...so, I'm not sure that's missing, since I'm not sure he'd have taken both and TJ is the better of the two.

    I would say so, he recruited him hard last time I remember and seemed like a damn good player.

    there's been many.

    However, if you asked how about top 5 players. Close to 0...I think Shabazz is the only one i can think of.

    Player that went to Michigan State - Adrian Payne

    I think Coleman and Ellis were pretty big priorities. He spent a ton of time on both. But both guys were gonna be tough to get away from the home school. Coleman basically grew up across the street from Syracuse.

    I think it worked out though. We got better players at both positions in the end. Although it seemed like Cal definitely wanted another big in this class. Missed on Coleman, Ellis, Bennett(still say he had grade issues), tried to get Trocha too but he didn't get the test scores.

    Not Adrian Payne, i was thinking of SG that's going there now.

    I don't think Bennett is accurate, i think UK and UF both cooled on him.

    EDIT: Gary Harris, the guy i was thinking of. Don't think Cal recruiting him hard, but i think he did recruit him. We have lost our share against Michigan State.

  • Yeah he seems to miss at least one a year but when everyone wants to come here missing on a couple can be expected and really isn't that big a deal.

    Xavier is probably the 2nd biggest "Loss" for Cal behind Shabazz..and..as it stands..we didnt want either in hindsight, so not only is Cal the best recruiter in the business, he's also blessed, or lucky! Thank GoD we lost out on Bazz..always wanted so much more..and Henry..both are headcases that do not play hard every play..id rather have a kid with half the talent that plays all the time..or in Poythress case..a kid with just as much talent and a non stop motor!

  • As I recall, I think that Cal was just turning the heat up on Harris as a ploy to get a commitment from I believe it was either Goodwin or Poythress. I think that he wanted either of those guys all along over Harris.

    I disagree with this.

    How do you know Xavier Henry wouldn't have flourished at UK? I wish we still got Henry.

    I still want Shabazz, i don't know what you are talking about.

    With Shabazz our rotation would be sick. Also, Shabazz would be awesome match up against Alex for development purpose.

  • Those players would not be head cases here under Cal and surrounded by our talent. Cal gets them on board from day one, that is underestimated when people call him just a recruiter.

  • I would have gladly traded Orton to Kansas for Xavier Henry. We needed Henry more than Orton. Maybe if Orton had went to Kansas Perry Stevenson(who bleeds wildcat blue btw) would have gotten Ortons minutes and maybe even a look from the league.
