Can we get an update on this Georgia Speedster?

  • UK reportedly after this WR pretty hard. How legit is his interest in UK?

  • Could we also get an update on Florida Olineman Ander Bodkin? He might be visiting UK real soon and is possibly close to a decision.

    MinterWonderlnd

  • Other Olinemen that could be interesting updates:

    1. Kyle Meadows
    2. Shamar Johnson (UL commit) who planned to visit Lex soon.

Linebackers- according to Minter, this group is the most important of this class, yet it seems like UK has little traction right now.

    1. Jeremy Benjamin
    2. Skai Moore
    3. James Clarke

    DE-

    1. Eric Mayes
    2. Darien Williston

    TE-

    1- Darren Dowdell

All of these guys would be great prospects to call for UK updates.

I'm getting the feeling that they either will convert some of the safety prospects to linebacker, or they are some other names out there at linebacker that are on their board that isn't being reported by the recruiting sites. I think they should take at least 2 linebackers in this class.

  • Minter said they wanted to sign some "Bigger, SEC ready" ready linebackers in this class. Benjamin fits that description.

You are 100% correct Minter!! And JBenj does so fill that need, and fill it well..kid is 6'3 230 and still gowing..runs a 4.55 and will get faster, stronger..I've heard reports of a 37" vertical..I know he verted 35" at a Nike camp..so he is an overall freakish athlete. I think Quentin James...a former RB at 6'2 220 4.5 could be another bigger bodied, SEC ready Lb..I want Skai Moore too..hes 6'2 215 and fast..he can fill out like Danny and Wesley did..but hes a heat seeking missle with the desire you cant teach!
2013 is looking like a legandary haul in Uk terms...just wish we had 25 to 28 'ships like in years past...who knows..mabye 2 or 3 Ol guys can be talked into greyshirting..this would only help them get stronger, quicker, and learn the plays while the starters are close to done..they could come in as greyshirt freshman and have a chance to start 4 years. this would also open u 3 or so spots for the team to take other kids that will only help thier teamget better. Jake Boynton, Justin Day..they are both 6'7 6'8 and below 285...you will not play SEC OT untill you put on about 25 lbs of solid muscle and get a lot stronger...and you have a slew of talented O-Line ahead of you. IF you greyshirt..you get 2 years to prepare..get bigger,stronger..and then Darrian Miller, Teven Nared, Zach West, and the current frosh O-Line will be gone, seniors,or juniors..you would be freshmen and have a chance to start 3 to 4 years!!
Id ask Reese Phillips to greyshirt as well..hes not gonna play over Smith or Towles..why not learn the offense and come in 2 years as a frosh behind a junior in Towles...have 3 years to start??

  • I have a question, if we end up with 22 available scholarships are we allowed to gray shirt 3 players? If we were to have 25 scholarships to give out, are any gray shirts allowed? I am confused on this new SEC recruiting rule and would love an explanation from someone in the know. TIA GO CATS!!!!

I THINK this is how part of the new rules work:
What happened previously was that a team would sign more kids than they could give scholarships to in a year. Sometimes as many as 30 or more, IIRC. I think that is what happened with Elliott Porter and when some recruits qualified they gave them scholarships and asked him to grey shirt. Now, a team can't sign all those players and then later (at the last moment in Porter's case) say, 'We can't give you a schollie now but we can give you one if you wait and enroll in January'. But, I think not qualifying academically is an exception and does not count against the total. There are still some loopholes (perhaps such as having 15 open schollies but being able to sign up to 25...) to be worked but it is a little better, I think.
