Can't get there from here: Missouri Tigers football game

  • Our semi regular road crew has decided on the Missouri game for an out of town trip. But to be honest, seeing as how it is about 465 miles each way from Lexington, the prospect of a 1000 road trip in a weekend is not as enticing to me as it once was.

But the problem is, from Lexington at least, it is faster to drive than to fly. There are no direct flights, obviously, and the only ones I saw on Delta included a 4 or 5 hour layover, making the total trip 9 or 10 hours. No thank you to that option as well.

Got to be a better way to get there. Delta has a much better flight from Louisville, only $300 or so, but it is still a five or six hour flight, with a layover in Memphis, plus the drive from Lex to Standiford Field.

Have they invented teleportation yet? I could use Scotty for that weekend.

  • You could fly southwest from Louisville to st. Louis an then rent a car and drive to Columbia. While it is a long drive it is an easy drive. 64 to stl and the. 70 to Columbia.

Thought about that too, but still have 200 miles to drive (80 to Lou from Lex, then 120 from St L to Columbia) + a flight + a rental car

  • I live in NKY, and have a son in Kansas City. Really, by the time you get to the airport an hour early, then get your luggage, rent a car, it makes more sense to drive to me. KC is a 9 hour drive and Columbia is about 100 mi east, so you can figure on being there in roughly 7.5 hours--very similar to Columbia, SC or Athens, GA for me. Plus, if you take 64 its an easy drive until St. Louis. Additionally, parking at Mizzou is pretty easy and the stadium is much easier to get to than either UGA or USC. So, I wouldn't give up on the drive. Its a good trip.

  • While it may take longer to fly, at least you can walk around in the airport, booze, eat, sleep, etc. when you want. To me, that freedom and leisure beats a long drive.

  • That will be one of my road trips as well this year along with Arkansas and ut. Me and my buddies drive to LSU last year, that was a long weekend. Mizzou isn't that terrible of a drive at most 7 hours if I had to guess

I'm the other way around. I can't stand the hassle at the airport anymore. Unless the drive is 10-plus, it's not worth it anymore. I enjoy a good drive (provided there's no traffic issues or road work). Great for music and thinking.

  • My parents live 40 miles NE from Columbia and yes its not the easiest place to get to especially if your trying to fly.

I make it to my parents in 6 hrs flat from Louisville so its about that to Columbia.

Not that much different different than going to Atlanta from Louisville or Lexington, and Cat fans dont have too much trouble with that!

Word to wise theres a great german beer and wine festival that happens ever October weekend in the town of Hermann which is right off 1-70 between STL and Columbia.

We head out there for a weekend every October and thats where were planning on taking our roadtrip gang this year for some Friday or Sunday revelry.

    Google "hermann oktoberfest"

But Columbia is also a great college town, though they are a little bit worried about living up to what they feel are "SEC standards" in that regard.

Dont hesitate to make the trip and we'll hope to see you at Faurot or in Hermann.

  • If you could fly out of Covington on Friday, here is a flight with only 1 lay over and a 4.5 hour total travel time. . .

Luckily, I live close to 2 airports that have direct flights to Lexington for Cheap. . . Allegiant Air is the way to go for me. . . I couldn't afford to drive with the prices they offer in advance. . . I'm flying from St. Pete to LEX in March for $69 . . . direct flight

That's one of the few exceptions I'd make. That's a whale of a deal!

Yeah, that is without checking a bag, and I'm probably going to be sitting in a middle seat. . . lol, but I'll take it. . .

  • Unless you have a ridiculous layover it's worth it, especially considering what gas will cost this year. SMH.
