Capital One Cup

  • As of today we are 5 pts behind UNC for the men's Cup, with only golf, track and field, and baseball remaining. We both are still in the running in baseball (though they are in better positioning to start the tournament). Any idea how we stand in golf and track/field?

  • Thanks for the update, where did you find it at? I thought they didn't post the current standing on a regular basis, but rather at the end of the semester or sports season.

  • Do they not count men's tennis?

    Keepin in fresh since 1986.

  • Golf made the regionals, but did not advance to the NCAA Finals, which are being held now. UNC did not make the final field either. UK has 3 representatives in the T&F NCAA Championships in javelin, discuss and steeplechase. Not sure about UNC.

  • I've been meaning to post this for some time. AMAZING how far UK has come in these rankings. Remember a couple years ago they were woefully low in these rankings.

Say what you will about Mitch Barnhart, but UK Athletics across the board isn't where it is now without him.

  • I really don't care to much about this. BUT didn't you know that UofVel has a better all around sports program than UK. LMFAO!

Chris, I agree wholeheartedly. It is truly amazing how Mitch has energized the entire athletics department.

The only knock I've heard against Mitch is football and the lack of funding, where his hands are tied with lack of bonding.

  • You energize non revenue sports like you do all of them, you throw money at them. One of the reasons we are first in men's and women's basketball is that we are also at the top in having the highest paid coaching staffs. One of the reasons we are bad at football is that we have the lowest paid coaching staff in the conference. It isn't magic. It is shifting resources.

They don't post a specific sport until it is completely finished. Tennis does count, but they only got like four pts there. That closed the gap from 9 down to five pts. The baseball team will need to go just as far as theirs and any further past them will be icing on the cake. With being a higher profile sport, if the bat cats can make it a step or two farther, that may be enough to pass them anyway.

Google Capital One Cup and that will
get you to the main site and the standings link is on that page.

look it up, UK does NOT have the lowest paid coaching staff in the conference... It's middle of the road last time I checked.

  • Looks like Alabama will go into the lead if they hold on to their first place lead at the NCAA Golf Championships. They are ahead by 4 strokes after two rounds and we need them to finish 3rd or less to stay in at least a tie for 2nd in the Capital One standings. Also the only way we win is if we make the College World Series otherwise we will most likely finish in the top 5.
