Cats add Florida athlete

It looks as though Kentucky has landed a playmaker it so desperately needed at wide receiver, picking up a commitment from Fort White (Fla.) athlete A.J. Legree.

  • I'm not sold he is the outside playmaker UK needs? It seems UK has a roster full of slot WR's. I hope this kid can be that homerun guy on the outside.

  • The kid appears to have good hands but no speed. ESPN has him listed as 4.7+ for the 40. Maybe is is more suited for the defense since CB is a real concern.

  • According to Tee we've got several guys with speed. And it looks like our guys didn't have too much difficulty getting open last yr. Now catching ability????? That's another thing entirely....

  • state high jumping champion in FLA? Sounds like someone who can go up and get it!

  • Oh, and TOS is reporting that he recently ran at a combine. 4.56-second 40-yard dash and 4.2-second shuttle time. Sounds like he doesn't have blazing top end speed, but sounds quick.

A 4.2 shuttle is what i'm looking at. That's that what many 4.4 guys do in the shuttle. If he can really catch and has mid 4.6 speed he will be fine. ESPN also said Shadrach Thornton ran a 4.7. Swindle seems like the most unathletic OT in this class on ESPN also and everyone knows all middle of the pack programs would love to have Swindle. Larry Fitzgerald only has 4.6 speed it's being able to adjust and catch that means the most. I like this guy, I just hope he is a playmaker. We need playmakers.

4.7 isn't enough speed to play corner eventhough that's probably close to what Dixon runs a 40 in. Dixon is quick though so he should be ok on the underneath stuff. If Legree has good instints and can tackle he could grow into a solid Safety with that skill set. No doubt Joker will try him out on Off due to all our struggles. It will all be pointless if we can't sign a OT with decent technique that is athletic and strong enough to compete for 2 or 3 seconds at a time.

Until we get better athletes at the CB position than we do at the WR position (like the rest of the SEC) we will always give up big chunks through the air. I hope this kid has the speed to beat man coverage if he doesn't I think he will end up playing for Rick instead of Randy @ safety. A 4.2 shuttle is pretty good. I've seen 4.4 40 kids have a 4.2 shuttles alot.

  • What was Randall Cobb's 40 time again?

    Cat DR

  • I can't remember coming out of high school but he was 4.4 at the combine. I believe it was around 4.5 in HS.

I think Cobb was a 4.5 out of HS.

40 times can be improved with the right training. And a 4.6 - 4.4 40 is plenty fast enough. Most HS 40 times are not very accurate.

  • Cobb didnt even run a 4.5 at the combine did he?

4.45. Most believed he'd be "slow" by NFL standards. Once he posted that time, he was a lock for the early rounds.

Official time was listed at 4.46.

They run twice though, and I believe his first one was in the mid-4.5s. I think everyone is getting too caught up with these 40 times anyways. Outside of the NFL combine, I have a really hard time putting much stock in any of these times, fast or slow.

  • Especially hand timed 40's. There is a ton of room to play with when you throw in the human component.

  • I am pretty excited about his pick up. We need some 5'10 to 6'2 guys that are quick and have some wiggle. Not to mention this guy's film shows good hands. He is a nice addition and has a chance to play right away. We need at least one or two more playmakers. Ace Wales and one other would be great.

  • 40 times usually don't tell the story. If it's hand timed, then it would be off by a 1/10 of a second which is a lot in a 40 time. Also, the key for running a 40 is technique and most high school kids aren't taught the proper technique. Shuttle time is a better indicator.
