    The thing is in all of this is that his immediate eligibility isn't a certainty right now. It is dependent, as Matt stated, on UConn being banned from post-season play next year. UConn has appealed that ruling and isn't expected to find out the ruling on that appeal for another 7-10 days, so don't expect Oriakhi to pick a school before then.

    The UConn APR ruling has already been appealed and denied once in February. This is a second appeal. I doubt very seriously that the NCAA will change the calculation rules of APR rates at UConn's request so that 'current athletes aren’t punished for the failings of previous classes.'

    Bet my next two paychecks that the NCAA denies this appeal as well.

    Because as I mentioned above, their eligibility wouldn't be up before postseason ban over, therefore they'd have to sit out the 2012-13 season. Those guys won't still be in college ball in 2013-14. I guess MAYBE Daniels would, but the other two aren't going to transfer and sit a year.

    Can you explain this eligibility thing.

    " Per NCAA rules, any scholarship seniors on a team facing a one-year postseason ban can obtain a waiver to transfer to another school without sitting a year. According to the NCAA, the student-athlete can obtain the waiver as long as he or she would have been "academically eligible had he or she remained at his or her original institution."

  • If the ncaa thinks he is leaning towards transferring to UK, you can bet they will overturn the punishment, reduxe it such that he would have to sit out a year if he transfers, or they will find a way to wait until he is at UK and then rule him ineligible.

    So much for our chances. Once Charlotte gets involved it's a done deal. It was fun to think about while it lasted.

    That was Pac 10 to SEC. This will be Big East to SEC. Apparently its a Big East rule if thats correct. Still seems odd.

    I don't understand...the Big East has a rule that says a one year transfer can't go to the SEC? That's how I'm reading that, but I can't make sense of it.

    If what the guy said is true. I have a hard time believing it but thats what he was referring to I believe. Or maybe its an SEC rule. Doesn't make sense either way.

    The rule they're talking about is an SEC rule. The article that I read said that the rule was put in place in 2011 to stop the practice of transferring to a school for the purpose of attending graduate school without having to sit a year in some cases. The old rules allowed a player who had completed undergraduate studies to transfer to a school with a graduate program in their chosen field without having to sit out a year ... provided that their current school does not have the same options for a graduate program. I think this rule was put in place to clean up issues like the Ole Miss / Masoli case in 2010.

    The article also stated that this rule only applied to football ... so I'm not even sure if it applies to Oriakhi.

    Also read that he could obtain a special waiver to transfer to an SEC school but that he won't be able to transfer to another Big East school.

  • I don't think he'll have an issue if he wants to attend an SEC school. UK wouldn't even bother pursuing if they didn't already know.

  • I heard on Sportscenter last week that even if the appeal is accepted, Oriakhi's father said that he WILL still transfer and sit out a year. He must really not like UCONN anymore.

    I feel this would be the perfect situation. Because we would be set if Noel comes this year, give AO a year to get use to UK and everything and be the big for the 2014 season. But having both can't hurt either. :)

    Update :: UConn's 2nd appeal on the post-season ban was denied yesterday (Thursday, April 5th). They will not be eligible for the NCAA tournament next year.

    I just saw on an ESPN trailer at the bottom of the screen that U Conn's appeal was denied. I guess it is now final, and Oriakhi is free to go wherever he chooses. If Cal offers I can't believe he wouldn't accept. Can Oriarkhi play the 4 and the 5? Would this scare Noel away? I can't believe if he is confident in his ability that it would. Lots of pt available next year if everything goes as expected with the current players turning pro.

    According to CBS Sports he is visiting Missouri next weekend and Kentucky the weekend after that.
