Cats in a fight to hang on to RB

Kentucky finds itself in a battle to hang on to one of the top-rated prospects on its commitment board for 2012.

  • Losing Thornton would be a bad, bad beat.

  • It's all a part of recruiting, so I won't be that upset if the 'Cats lose him. Maybe we can use the scholarship he was offered(if he does indeed decommit) for a WR or a playmaker at another position.

Gotta recruit RBs every class, though, and the program needs guys with legit size and speed like Thornton. It would be a big blow, especially if he winds up at Vandy.

  • I have to be honest, I can't blame the kid if he does switch. You see one program on the rise, and one that isn't. You see one coaching staff that gets it, and one that don't. You see one team that, win or lose, keeps fighting and one that don't.

Be objective...which one would you pick?

Understand that as well. Hope we can hold on to him, definitely. Kids with his size/speed don't come around very often for UK(with the exception of Clemons. )

  • It goes without saying, but UK *really* needs to have some good things happen over the last half of the season to slow the tidal wave of negativity and give the coaching staff something positive to sell on the recruiting trail.

  • Anyone else see a problem here when we say, "cant blame the kid if he does switch.", especially if it is to Vandy. My gosh, how far we have fallen these past two seasons. I do blame the kid and our program. It is simply pathetic.

  • We can kiss Thorton goodbye. So now do we offer Mobley? We need more size at RB IMHO and Mobley seems to be the best thing left on our board. I don't see us getting Dillard or Byars so..

I don't blame the kid...I DO blame the program.

It is what it is. I don't like it a damned bit, but apparently Mitch and others are happy as a pig in crap with the status quo. I'm hoping the team and coaching staff can turn it around the 2nd half of the season, but I'm not the least bit optimistic.

Something about past performance being indicative of future results, probably.

I would imagine Mobley would be the next in line.

  • If we can land Anthony Wales, it will make up for it. IMHO

Chris, JD... any word on a Wales offer? I may have missed something. shrug

  • Ask yourself a very simple question. Would you come from another state to play at UK?

Who is his recruiting contact? What has Vandy done on the field to impress him to leave UK and go with them?

This is were you need someone down their now to talk to the kid instead of just accepting the fact he will sign with someone else. This is why you need a recruiting budget that is more than $1.99

You are correct. Let me try this again.
    It is simply UNACCEPTABLE!

  • Vandy's class is a real SEC recruiting class. Recruited best prospect in Tn, A RB out of Memphis that UT and other big time offers. Committed 2-3 guys in Ga, one guy had 30+ offers of big time another had over 20 offers in ga. 4 star guy in Minnesota. They are getting it done.

You have a coaching staff that said we are going to take what we have and recruit to it. great school, great city, great conference, and you can play early. Not big secret how you do it. You can skim around the edges and hope you get lucky on a guy like some staffs do or you can dream big. This coach at Vandy is going to get it done, they are competitive in play with a team that is not very good. They have a coach who dreams big and works his ass off and so does staff.

Franklin and staff have the "it" factor, guys want to play for him. They like that he stands up for his kids and says we are not going to be pushed around and take smack from teams ala Ga (todd grantham, Mark Richt) They say hey we are tired of being the laughing stock. No meek handshakes and sheepish embarrassed smiles with this bunch. They don't accept it like some programs do. Easy to say this all for show but Vandy and Franklin are proof in the pudding, product is much improved and recruiting is going great. That is the difference in many programs and Vandy staffs of the past. They get it and are proving it. They are not settling and saying " take your ass whipping and go home" with a smile on your face.

Very refreshing and envious to say the least.
    IMO

  • Lots of Vandy fans on here. They are really tearing it up they had 77 yards against South Carolina almost 20 less than we did. They are having a good class and have some recruiting momentum that is true but let's not get carried away.

  • I feel like I'm watching a train headed down the tracks at full speed that is getting ready to derail. It appears that this situaion could get drastically uglier.

Interesting that both Ole Miss and Vandy are having terrible seasons, yet recruits are clamouring to get there. That's the "juice" that Joker was referring to. LOL

Cook - It is the guy's first year and he is kicking Joker's butt on the recruiting trail. If he takes Thornton it will be a huge blow. He doesn't have the facilities or the recent success UK has, but is lighting us up. Question for you, do you really think we will go to Nashville and get a win this year? FYI, he hasn't been with the program since he was 18 years old either. It is his first year. I think to accuse people of being fans of other teams at this point in time is as weak as it comes. Everyone is fed up with the terrible coaching and recruiting Joker is giving UK. We could very well end up 12th in the SEC in both aspects.

  • Franklin is doing a bang up job right now......in the future? We'll see. You still have to translate that to success on the field. Tim Brewster had the same type of recruiting success at Minnesota, but was fired midway through his 3rd year because he couldn't win games. As for Thornton, of couse we'll have to work to hold on to him... just like any other guy you really want.....
