Call me a pessimist but I don't get the excitement. We beat out JACKSONVILLE for the guy. And not the Jaguars. There is a reason this guy is excited to play for UK. The other school recruiting him is JACKSONVILLE. Just seems like more of the same old same old to me.
Okay, we beat out Jacksonville and the mighty 2-3 Bulls of South Florida from the powerhouse Big East conference for his services. I'm still not getting the excitement unless this guy had offers from other schools in the SEC or even the ACC and Big 10? I don't know because I haven't researched the kid but if these were his other scholarship offers then I can't help but think that it's more of the same.
Look, I'm not trying to paint a picture of gloom and doom but recruits like these aren't getting us to bowl games anymore. The coaches might be able to find that "diamond in the rough" occasionally but most of these recruits are ranked where they are for a reason. I'm not on here calling for Joker's job or anything like that. But with the addition of the two new schools in the SEC and each school now having to play 8 conference games, we can only schedule 3 cupcakes a year (turned out well with WKU). UK now has to win those three games and three more between the conference games and Louisville just to be bowl eligible. Sorry, but a steady diet of these recruits isn't going to get it done. The recruiting in football has to be stepped up about 6 notches. We don't need a new coach. We need the coach we have to recruit better.
